Set up contractor plans and billing (site owner)

Turn on billing, set the trial and plans, create the Stripe prices, and handle non-payment and exceptions.

You decide whether contractors pay to use the Contractor Hub. While billing is off, every approved contractor has full access for free.

Warning: The plan names, prices, limits and feature lists in the plugin are unapproved placeholders. Check them before you turn billing on.

Before you start

Set up Stripe first. See “Set up Stripe for your site”. Without a secret key, the plans page warns you, and a site with billing on but no key fails closed: nothing can be bought.

Steps

  1. In WordPress go to Settings → VisionScaper Plans.
  2. Fill in the plan table: Name, Tagline, Most popular badge, What’s included, Not included, Price per month, Price per year, and each limit or feature.
  3. Click Save plans.
  4. Click Create these plans in Stripe. This makes a Stripe product and monthly and yearly prices from your saved amounts and fills in the Stripe price ID boxes. Or paste price IDs you made yourself.
  5. In Stripe, add these events to your webhook endpoint: customer.subscription.created, customer.subscription.updated, customer.subscription.deleted, invoice.paid and invoice.payment_failed. Keep checkout.session.completed.
  6. The page then lists settings to make in Stripe’s customer portal and in its failed-payment (revenue recovery) area. Follow Stripe’s current instructions and the page’s wording. It also asks you to turn off Stripe’s own failed-payment emails, so contractors hear one voice.
  7. Tick Turn on contractor billing and save. Contractors approved before today get one grandfathered trial.

The trial

Set the Free trial days (0 to 90) and the plan it uses. Optionally require a phone verified by text (needs Twilio). Set the Trial allowances for AI credits and landscape plans.

When a payment fails

You set the day each stage starts: reminder, restricted, read-only, and the day of suspension. The restricted stage has separate tick boxes for AI, new landscape plans, buying credits or storage, large uploads (you choose the size in MB) and automatic follow-up texts. Appointment reminders, receipts and invoices keep going. After a number of unpaid days the account is only flagged as eligible for deletion. Nothing is deleted automatically.

Other settings

  • Fair use: an alert when an “unlimited” plan makes more than your set number of landscape plans in a month. Nothing is blocked.
  • Keep data after cancelling: months shown to contractors.

Manage one contractor

The Contractors table shows each business, status, plan, trial or renewal date and last payment. A summary line shows monthly recurring revenue and counts. In Owner actions choose one of: Extend trial, Give free access (comp), End free access, Give more time to pay (days), Suspend now, Restore, Grant a second trial (exception), Set plan. Most need a written reason, which is logged.

Tips

  • Changing prices applies to new subscriptions. Existing subscribers stay on their Stripe price until you move them.
  • Practice with test keys first.

If something goes wrong

  • A warning about Stripe keys. Save your keys on Settings → VisionScaper.
  • “Please write a reason.” The action you picked needs one.
