Set up Twilio for texting
Paste your Twilio details into Settings → VisionScaper and point incoming texts at VisionScaper.
On this page
Twilio is the default text service. This is a task for the site administrator, and you do it once for the whole site.
Before you start
- You need a Twilio account and a phone number that can send texts. Follow Twilio’s current instructions to create the account and buy the number.
- In the US, carriers block texts until your business is registered for A2P 10DLC. Twilio explains this in its own Console. VisionScaper’s own settings page tells you to register a “Customer care / account notifications” campaign for service texts.
- For marketing texts, the Marketing settings page says you need a separate A2P 10DLC campaign with the use case “Marketing” or “Mixed”. A “Customer care” campaign alone is not allowed to carry promotions.
Steps
- In WordPress, go to Settings → VisionScaper. Find the section Text messages (Twilio).
- Paste your Twilio Account SID (it starts with
AC). - Paste your Twilio Auth Token.
- Enter Twilio phone number in the form
+18605550100. You can leave this empty if you use a Messaging Service. - Optional but recommended: in Twilio, create a Messaging Service, add your number to it, and paste its SID (starts with
MG) into Messaging Service SID (optional). - Save.
- In Twilio, open your phone number (or the Messaging Service) and set A message comes in to Webhook, HTTP POST. Use the address shown in the numbered list on the Settings → VisionScaper page. It ends in
crm/twilio. See “Incoming message webhook addresses”. - Go to Settings → VisionScaper Messaging. Under Texts, make sure Text service is set to Twilio.
What this gives you
- Customers’ replies are logged in the Contractor Hub and emailed to the contractor. The settings page says texts from unknown numbers become leads.
- STOP replies are honored.
- Delivery receipts are requested automatically. You do not set anything up for that.
Tips
- Use a Messaging Service if you plan to send many texts. It is optional.
- If you want a backup, Settings → VisionScaper Messaging has the checkbox If it fails, try the other one. It needs Telnyx set up too.
- Keep your Auth Token private. Do not paste it into emails or chats.
If something goes wrong
- Texts do not send: check that Account SID, Auth Token and either a phone number or Messaging Service SID are all filled in. VisionScaper treats Twilio as ready only when those are present.
- Texts are accepted but never arrive: this is usually missing A2P 10DLC approval. Check Twilio’s Console.
- Replies do not show up: the “A message comes in” webhook is missing or has the wrong address.
