What’s new in versions 2.45 to 2.51

A plain-language summary of the designer changes in the most recent releases, from the changelog.

This summary comes from the plugin’s changelog (readme.txt). The newest version is 2.51.0. Entries in the changelog for 2.45 to 2.51 are 2.45.0, 2.46.0, 2.47.3, 2.48.0, 2.48.1, 2.48.2, 2.49.0, 2.50.0 and 2.51.0. Nothing in this article claims these changes were tested by the help writers.

2.51.0: painted ground looks right on your own photos

  • Painted materials (mulch, stone, pavers, grass) no longer break up on photos that are not the built-in samples. The depth effect uses a safe camera, so the far end of an area cannot collapse into streaks.
  • Fresh photos get an automatic eye-level estimate. Depth shading and edge shadow are gentler so textures keep detail.
  • Material size no longer changes on retina screens.
  • New Perspective of painted ground slider in the Brush and Bed panels.

2.50.0: one way to outline an area

  • The Add wizard, Clear-an-area wizard, Draw beds & patios and Select all share the same outline choices: Curved edges, Straight edges or Rectangle. The old Smart / Paint it / Outline it modes are gone.
  • Fine-tune after outlining: drag white dots on the edge, tap teal “+” bubbles to add a dot, use Remove point and Undo. It works on finished beds and patios too.
  • The Add wizard has a Fine-tune the edges button.

2.49.0: guided “Add an area”

A new wizard in the Add tool: Where (auto-find the bed, tap corners, or draw around it), What (any material from the full browser, Popular first, searchable), then see it in the photo with one-tap swaps, an edging choice and Change the area. It creates the same live, editable shape as the Draw tool.

2.48.x: blank canvas

  • 2.48.0: clearing weeds, plants and clutter makes the whole bed or lawn clean and ready. It finds the edge of a mulch bed itself, or you circle the part to clear. It runs in your browser with no cloud call and no cost. The button became Clear weeds, make a blank canvas, and a Fix-it menu handles “still some green”, wrong color, and similar.
  • 2.48.1: blank canvas now asks what the area should become (lawn, mulch bed or soil bed), marks its guess “My best guess”, and lets you tap a different one. New first question: Find the bed for me or I’ll circle the area.
  • 2.48.2: the first screen says Clear an area and Take out one thing. Find the bed for me accepts only a bed it is confident is mulch. Otherwise it offers Tap the corners or Draw around it. Soil looks use library soils.

2.47.3: remove weeds, remove something, 3D depth

Weeds are tested on real photos: circle the weedy part and green plants inside are the weeds. If weeds cover about a third or more, it shows a fresh bed instead. A guided Remove something shows Before and After and retries up to three times. Five sample yards are available. Painted ground gets 3D depth and photo-shadow sliders.

2.46.0: selection bar and turning

  • A floating bar over the picture with Turn left, Turn right, Flip, Copy, Remove and a green Done. On phones it sits at the bottom.
  • A round handle above the selected item turns it as you drag, clicking at straight and square angles. Hold Shift for free turning.
  • Side panel Turn & flip. Duplicate is now Copy, facing the other way.

2.45.0: scale without measuring

  • Set it up for me finds eye level, spots a door, garage door, person or car, and shows 6-foot people to check.
  • A “See it grow” slider that follows each plant’s true growth curve, with Fully grown.
  • Clear weeds from a bed.
  • Plainer tool names: Move, Erase & fill, Add, Measure, Photo setup, Ask AI, Pan.
  • A server route for the scene check uses your fal.ai key, with a daily limit per customer.
