Hub search box, New button and guided tours
How the search box and New menu in the Contractor Hub header work, plus the guided tour offer and the Tours & tips window.
Two controls sit in the header of every Contractor Hub screen: a search box and a New button. A third thing, the guided tour, helps first-time users find their way. This article lists every input on them.
Where to find them: the search box and New button are in the Contractor Hub header on every screen. The tour offer and Tours & tips window are in the customer-facing VisionScaper app (home screen, editor and AI studio). Everyone who can sign in to the Hub sees the header controls. What each person finds depends on their role.
Search box
| Field (exact label) | What it does for VisionScaper | What to enter and example | Default / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search (placeholder “Search customers, quotes, jobs…”) | Looks across your customers, properties, jobs and visits, quotes, invoices, tasks, screens and settings pages as you type. The server finds and ranks results and checks each one against your permissions. | A name, address, phone number or quote number, such as “Smith” or “Q-1042”. Type at least 2 characters. | Empty. Search starts about a quarter of a second after you stop typing. |
| Recent list (shown when the box is empty) | Reopens things you opened lately. | Click the box without typing. | Up to 20 items, newest first, saved in this browser only. A settings page is never saved as recent. |
| Result rows | Open the item. A customer or quote opens its screen; a property opens the customer’s Work tab; a job opens Field work; an invoice opens Invoices; a settings page opens that settings tab and highlights the setting; a task opens a small card (tasks are worked on in the phone app). | Click, or use the arrow keys and press Enter. | The first row is chosen when you press Enter. Escape closes the list. |
Screen shortcuts also appear. You can type an everyday name or an old name, such as “Receivables”, “Pipeline”, “Timesheets”, “Dispatch” or “Takeoff” (at least 3 letters), and a matching Hub screen is listed under “Screens”.
If nothing matches, the box says “Nothing found. Check the spelling, or try part of the address or phone number.” If the box is empty and you have no recent items it says “Nothing here yet. Type a name, address, phone number or quote number.”
The New button
Click New to open a menu. Which items appear depends on the person’s rights.
| Menu item | What it does | Who sees it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| New customer | Opens the add-customer form. | Anyone allowed to edit customers or add leads. | |
| New quote | Opens a new quote. | Anyone allowed to draft documents. | |
| New job or visit | Opens the visit form. | Anyone allowed to assign jobs. | |
| New invoice | Opens a new invoice. | Anyone allowed to see money and draft documents. | |
| New expense | Opens the quick expense form. | Anyone allowed to add expenses. | |
| New task | Opens the quick task form. | Everyone. | |
| Clock in | Opens the quick clock-in. | Everyone. |
Use the arrow keys to move through the menu, Enter to choose and Escape to close. Set who gets which right in settings-team-permissions.
Guided tours (customer app)
The first time someone opens the home screen, the editor or the AI studio, a card offers a tour. It is offered once per screen.
| Field (exact label) | What it does for VisionScaper | What to enter and example | Default / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Show me (button) | Starts a spotlight tour that points at the real buttons. | Click. | |
| Skip (button) | Closes the offer and does not offer that screen again. | Click. | |
| Don’t offer tours again (checkbox) | With Skip, turns tours off for this browser. | Tick before clicking Skip. | Off. |
| Skip tour / Back / Next / Got it! (tour buttons) | Move through or end a tour. Escape also ends it. | Click. | The last step shows “Got it!”. |
Tours & tips window
Open it from My Account (tile “Tours & tips”) or from the guide (“Guided tours & tips”).
| Field (exact label) | What it does for VisionScaper | What to enter and example | Default / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offer a guided tour the first time I open each screen (checkbox) | Turns offers on or off. | Tick or untick. | On. |
| Show all tours and tips again (button) | Forgets which tours you finished and turns offers back on. It also brings back the “This uses 1 AI credit” reminder. | Click. | |
| Home screen, Design editor, VisionScaper AI (buttons under “Start a tour now”) | Starts that tour now. The editor and AI tours need that screen open. | Click one. |
Tour choices are saved in the browser only (they are not an account setting).
Hub “Show me” tours
The Today, Quotes, Jobs, Calendar and Money screens each have a Show me tour. It runs only when you ask, never on its own, and it skips steps whose button is not on screen.
Steps
- To find something, click the search box and type at least 2 characters. Pick a row.
- To add something, click New and pick an item.
- To switch tours off, tick Don’t offer tours again on the offer card, or untick the box in Tours & tips.
- To bring tours back, open Tours & tips and click Show all tours and tips again.
Tips
- Recent items are saved per person in this browser, so a different computer starts empty.
- If a settings name is hard to find, type it into the search box.
If something goes wrong
- “Search did not work. Try again.” Check your connection and type again.
- A New item is missing. You may not have the right for it. Ask the owner to change your permissions.
- Tours do not appear. Tours may be off, or you finished them. Use Show all tours and tips again. Tours are also not offered in preview mode.
