Get your Facebook App ID and App secret
Create a Meta app with Facebook Login so customers can sign in to VisionScaper with Facebook.
“Sign in with Facebook” needs an app on Meta for Developers.
What VisionScaper uses
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Fields | Facebook App ID (facebook_id) and Facebook App secret (facebook_secret), Settings → VisionScaper → Customer accounts → Sign in with Facebook |
| Permissions requested | email and public_profile |
| Valid OAuth Redirect URI | https://yoursite.com/?dreamscaper_oauth=facebook (copy the exact one from the settings page) |
| Graph version in code | v19.0 |
If a Facebook account has no email, VisionScaper creates a placeholder address and the app asks for a real one.
Before you start
- A personal Facebook account to register as a developer.
- Your privacy policy page address, and a page explaining how customers delete their data. VisionScaper suggests saying they can delete their account in VisionScaper → My account → Delete account.
Steps
- Go to developers.facebook.com/apps/creation/ and log in.
- App details: enter an app name and contact email. Click Next.
- Use cases: pick “Authenticate and request data from users with Facebook Login”. Click Next.
- Business: pick a portfolio or “I don’t want to connect a business portfolio yet”. Click Next, review requirements, then Go to dashboard.
- Open Facebook Login, then Settings. In the Client OAuth Settings section, put the redirect address in Valid OAuth redirect URIs. Save.
- Open App settings, Basic. Copy the App ID and show the App secret. Add the privacy policy URL and a data-deletion instructions URL here (VisionScaper’s own instructions say this goes in Basic).
- Switch the app to Live using the app mode toggle in the App Dashboard toolbar. Meta advises doing this only when development and any App Review are finished, and test data becomes visible to everyone on switching.
- In WordPress paste the two values into the Facebook fields and Save.
- Test in a private window with a Facebook account that has no role on the app.
Tips
- In Development mode only people with a role on the app can sign in.
- Keep the secret private. Reset it in Meta’s dashboard if exposed, then update VisionScaper.
If something goes wrong
- URL blocked / redirect error: the Valid OAuth redirect URI does not exactly match.
- Only you can log in: the app is still in Development mode.
- Button missing: App ID or secret field is empty.
- No email returned: the user may have no email or declined; they will be asked for one.

Unverified: where Meta’s current dashboard puts the App secret “Show” button and the privacy/data-deletion fields in Basic settings (Meta’s pages read do not say; the locations come from VisionScaper’s own settings text). Meta’s current Graph version is higher than v19.0 in the code; whether v19.0 still works was not checked.
