Keyboard shortcuts

Every Designer key in one table: tools, editing, zoom, and the selection tool.

Keys work when the Designer is open on a computer. On a Mac, use Cmd where this page says Ctrl. Hover over a tool to see its key in the tooltip, for example “Erase & fill … (W)”.

Tools

V Move
W Erase & fill (opens on Pick the spot)
E Remove it (the second Erase & fill tab)
P Add (Plants & things)

View

  • Hold Space and drag to pan. The Pan tool (H) does the same.
  • + (or =) zooms in, – zooms out, 0 fits the picture.
  • The mouse wheel zooms around the pointer, only while the pointer is over the picture.

While using Pick the spot

Key Action
Ctrl+A Select all
Ctrl+Shift+I Invert
Ctrl+D Deselect
1 to 9 Switch mode: Curved edges, Straight edges, Rectangle, Object, Same color, Snap to edge, Hug the edge, Oval, Touch-up brush
[ and ] Smaller or larger brush
Delete or Backspace Remove what is highlighted
Enter Finish a shape or accept a preview
Shift, Alt Add to, or take away from, the selection

Tips

  • Backspace removes the last point while you draw a bed.
  • Keys do nothing while a window is open, so close it first.

If something goes wrong

  • Keys ignored: click the picture first so a text box is not focused. Keys are also ignored while you type in any text box.
  • A tool key opened a different tab: the key opens the first tab of its group; use the tab names at the top of the panel.
