Read a plant fact sheet and growth chart

Open the i on a plant card to see four-season previews, facts like size, light, zones and deer resistance, and the height and width growth chart.

Every plant in the library has a fact sheet. It is the quickest way to learn how big a plant gets, when, and what it needs.

Open it

  • In the library, tap the small i on a plant card (its tooltip says “Plant facts”).
  • With a plant selected in the picture, tap All plant facts →.
  • Outside a design, tap a plant card in Plant & item library.

What it shows

Four seasons. Small pictures for Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Facts. Rows appear when the data exists:

Row Meaning
Mature size Height and width when fully grown
Growth Growth rate, usually inches per year
Time to mature size About how many years (trees, evergreens, shrubs) or seasons; annuals say “one season”
Flowers Bloom color and months
Fall color If it has one
Berries / fruit If it has them
Light Full sun, part shade, shade
Hardiness zones USDA zone range
In your zone Only after you set a zone: likely to thrive, borderline, tender, too warm
Invasive “Can be invasive in …” with regions, when flagged
Foliage Evergreen, Deciduous / dies back, or Annual, with leaf color
Deer Resistant, or May be browsed

A short note about the plant may follow.

Growth chart

Growth from planting is a chart of height (green line) and width (yellow line). Trees and shrubs are shown in years from “Seed”. Perennials and grasses show seasons from “Plant”. Annuals show June to October.

When a plant is selected in a design, the same chart appears in the side panel under Growth over time. A white dot marks its size when planted and a green dot marks the year shown on the See it grow slider.

Steps: use it to choose a plant

  1. Open the fact sheet.
  2. Compare Mature size with the space you have. A 15-ft-wide shrub will not fit a 4-ft bed.
  3. Check Light and Hardiness zones.
  4. Tap Place in my yard to start placing it, then tap the photo.

Tips

  • Use the chart with the See it grow slider: see Plant age and the See it grow slider.
  • The text “In your zone” is information only. It never blocks you from placing a plant.
  • Plants you identify with Plant ID that are not in the library get a growth profile; if no growth data exists the app says it will show the plant at a fixed size.

If something goes wrong

  • A row is missing: that plant has no data for it.
  • No “In your zone” row: set your zone in Filters → Hardiness zone.
