Get your QuickBooks Client ID and Client Secret
Create an app at Intuit's developer site, add VisionScaper's redirect address, and enter the keys under Connected apps.
On this page
VisionScaper connects to QuickBooks Online with an app you create yourself at Intuit’s developer site. You get a Client ID and Client Secret, paste them into VisionScaper, then press Connect and sign in to QuickBooks.
Note: Intuit’s developer pages load with JavaScript and could not be read here. The steps below come from VisionScaper’s built-in walkthrough plus two third-party guides that describe the Intuit screens. Treat Intuit screen names as unverified and follow what Intuit shows today.
Before you start
- A QuickBooks Online company. VisionScaper’s page says QuickBooks Desktop is not supported (use CSV import and export).
- An Intuit developer account (sign in at developer.intuit.com with your QuickBooks login).
- The Contractor Hub with the Connected apps screen available on your plan.
Steps
- In the Contractor Hub go to Settings → Connected apps and open the QuickBooks Online card. Open Set-up walkthrough. It prints the Redirect address and a Webhook address with a Copy button.
- Sign in at
developer.intuit.com/app/developer/dashboard. - Choose Create an app. VisionScaper’s walkthrough says to pick QuickBooks Online and Payments, and the scope
com.intuit.quickbooks.accounting. That is the only scope the plugin asks for. - Open the app’s Keys & credentials area. A third-party guide says development keys are under Development settings and production keys under Production settings.
- Under Redirect URIs add the address from step 1. It ends in
/wp-json/dreamscaper/v1/oauth/qbo/callbackon your site. It must match exactly. Third-party guides say to add it for both Development and Production. - For Production keys, Intuit asks you to finish a short app questionnaire first. A guide lists app details such as contact information, EULA and privacy-policy links, host domain, launch URL and disconnect URL, and some compliance questions. It says the keys stay locked until you submit.
- Copy the Client ID and Client Secret.
- Back in VisionScaper, in the QuickBooks Online card, paste them into Client ID and Client secret.
- In QuickBooks company, choose Production (my real company) or Sandbox (testing). This must match the key type.
- Leave How data moves as you want: Import only, Export only, or Both ways.
- Click Save settings.
- Click Connect QuickBooks Online, sign in to Intuit, and pick your company. You return to VisionScaper with “Connected”.
- Click Sync now to bring customers across.
Tips
- Switching between Production and Sandbox needs a disconnect first.
- The tokens last only a short time; VisionScaper refreshes them. If permission expires, a banner says to tap Reconnect. Nothing is lost.
- The client secret field shows dots after saving. Leave it blank to keep the saved one.
If something goes wrong
- “QuickBooks didn’t accept the Client ID / secret (check Production vs Sandbox keys).” Wrong key set for the chosen company type.
- Intuit says the redirect URI is not valid. It does not match the address on the walkthrough, or was added to the wrong key type.
- “That sign-in link expired or was already used.” Press Connect again.
