Register for A2P 10DLC on Twilio

The registration US carriers require before business texts are delivered, and what you need to have ready.

In the US, carriers require businesses to register before they send app-to-person texts on a regular phone number. VisionScaper’s own setup page says texts are blocked by carriers until this is approved. This article follows Twilio’s current guides. Use the live screens in the Twilio Console, because wording changes.

Warning: Review time is set by carriers and Twilio, not by VisionScaper. Start early. Twilio’s guide says campaign review is manual and currently reports 10 to 15 days, and some sources say two to three weeks.

Before you start

  • A Twilio account and a text-capable number.
  • Your legal business name, tax ID (EIN), address, website, and a contact email that carriers can reach.
  • Plain-language answers to: how do customers say yes to texts, and what will a sample text say?
  • VisionScaper’s own “Get ready to text” form asks for the same items: legal name, EIN in the form 12-3456789, website starting https://, street address, contact email, what you text about, how customers opt in, and a sample text that includes the word STOP.

Choose your path

Path Who it fits
Standard or Low-Volume Standard brand Businesses with an EIN. Twilio’s guide says choose Low-Volume Standard if you send fewer than 6,000 message segments per day.
Sole Proprietor brand Businesses in the US or Canada with no tax ID. One campaign, one number.

Steps (Standard path)

  1. In the Twilio Console go to the Onboarding page under Messaging > Regulatory Compliance.
  2. Open the Create Customer Profile tab. Fill in your business details. Approval can take 72 hours or more, and you can start the brand while it waits. Skip this if you already have a Primary Customer Profile.
  3. Open the Register Brand tab. Enter the brand details and a brand contact email (used for two-factor identity checks). Twilio sends it to The Campaign Registry. Statuses are IN_REVIEW, APPROVED, FAILED or SUSPENDED. Manual review can take seven business days or more.
  4. When the brand is APPROVED, press Continue to see your messaging limits.
  5. Create a Messaging Service and add your numbers (see “Create a Twilio Messaging Service”).
  6. Open the Campaign Registration tab. Choose a use case, pick your Messaging Service, and describe opt-in, opt-out and help handling.
  7. Wait for approval. A brand can have up to five campaigns.

Steps (Sole Proprietor path)

Twilio’s guide lists these in order: create a Starter Profile, register the brand with a one-time code sent to your mobile phone (answer within 24 hours), register the campaign with the Sole Proprietor use case, then add your single number to the new Messaging Service.

Tips

  • Use details that match your tax records. Twilio says this affects your trust score, which sets throughput and daily limits.
  • Always include opt-out language (“Reply STOP to opt out”) in sample messages.
  • VisionScaper honors STOP replies and names the business in marketing texts. That helps with review but does not replace registration.

If something goes wrong

  • Brand FAILED. Open the brand overview in the Console and read the reason. Fix the mismatch and resubmit.
  • Campaign rejected. Carriers read sample texts. Make them realistic and add opt-out words.
  • Texts blocked after approval. Make sure the number is in the Messaging Service attached to the campaign.
