Autopay

Autopay

Let customers save a card or bank account so marked invoices are charged on the due date.

With autopay, a customer saves a card or bank account once. An invoice you mark for autopay is charged on its due date. It is off for the whole website until the site owner turns it on.

Before you start (site owner)

  1. In WordPress go to Settings → VisionScaper.
  2. Find Automatic payments (autopay) and tick the box. Its label says customers can save a card or bank account with Stripe, and that Stripe’s saved-card and bank fees apply. Read Stripe’s current fees first.
  3. Save. Nothing is charged while the box is off.

The contractor must also have a ready Stripe account. See “Connect your Stripe account”.

What the customer does

  1. They sign in and open My Projects.
  2. In the 💳 Autopay card, they find your business name and read the agreement line. It says you may charge the full invoice amount on the due date, and it lists your retry plan.
  3. They tick the box to agree. Without it they see “Please tick the box to agree first.”
  4. They tap Save a card or bank account on Stripe and finish on Stripe’s page.

VisionScaper stores only Stripe ids, the kind of method and the consent text and time. It never stores a card number.

Later, the customer can tap Remove my saved card (or bank account). You are told when they do, and their invoices stop being charged.

What you do

  • Mark a single draft or open invoice for autopay. This is done from the phone app (the screen name is not verified in this web code).
  • Switch one customer’s autopay off or on, with a reason, from the phone app. Team members need the permission Turn automatic payment on or off.
  • Set the retry plan. The owner can set up to six retries, each 1 to 14 days apart. The starting plan is 1, 3 and 5 days after each failure.

How it runs

  • On the due date, the charge is tried once.
  • If Stripe does not answer, the outcome is unknown. VisionScaper does not start a new charge. It sends the same request again later.
  • If a charge fails, the customer and you are both told. The invoice stays open and the next retry is scheduled.
  • After the last retry it stops and logs “Autopay gave up.”
  • If a cash or check payment was already recorded, autopay skips the invoice and tells you.

Tips

  • Use autopay for repeating maintenance invoices.
  • Customers who are not signed in to VisionScaper cannot save a method. They still pay by the normal link.

If something goes wrong

  • The Autopay card does not show. The site owner has not turned autopay on, or the customer has no linked account.
  • “Waiting for Stripe to confirm.” Refresh in a minute after the customer finishes.
  • A charge says “Check Stripe”. The result could not be confirmed. Look in your Stripe dashboard. Nothing more is charged automatically.
