Draw beds, patios, lawns, walkways, walls and edging

Outline a shape on the ground, fill it with a material, add edging, and reshape it later with draggable dots.

The Draw beds & patios tab makes clean, editable shapes that follow the perspective of your photo.

Where to find it

Add → Draw beds & patios (key L).

Pick a shape

Under Landscape shapes choose one: Planting bed, Patio, Lawn, Walkway, Retaining wall or Edging. A line of help appears. For example:

  • Bed: tap around the bed. A big Start point appears. Tap it again to close the loop. Each loop gets a name (Bed 1, Bed 2 and so on).
  • Patio: tap the corners, or switch on Rectangle and drag one on the ground.
  • Walkway: tap along the middle, from one end to the other. It keeps a true width and narrows into the distance.
  • Retaining wall: tap along the bottom of the wall. Set its height; it rises straight up.
  • Edging: tap along the edge line.

Steps: draw a bed

  1. Choose Planting bed and pick a material in Materials: pick one to fill with.
  2. Under How do you want to outline it? pick Curved edges, Straight edges or Rectangle.
  3. Tap points around the area. The status says how many points are placed.
  4. Close the loop by tapping the big Start point, or tap Close loop. Double-tap also finishes.
  5. White dots appear. Drag one to fix the edge. See Outline modes and fine-tuning.
  6. Choose Border / edging: None, Metal, Plastic, Stone or Brick. (Lawn and Retaining wall do not offer edging. For the Edging shape the type is Metal, Plastic, Stone or Brick.)

Use Back 1 point (or Backspace) to take back a point, Clear (or Esc) to start over, and Enter to finish.

Fill shapes

A section called Fill your shapes appears once loops exist:

  • Tap a shape on the photo to fill it with the selected material. A button toggles “Tap a shape to fill it (on/off)”. Turn it off to draw a new shape inside an existing one.
  • Fill all [n] with [material] fills every shape.
  • Each shape in the list has Fill, Rename and Edit buttons and shows its area in square feet (with ≈ on photos).
  • Tick Draw outlines first, choose materials later to outline several shapes before picking materials.

Change a shape later

Use the Move tool and tap the shape. The panel offers Curved or Straight edges, Border / edging, Material, Smaller and Bigger, Opacity, Duplicate, On top, Below and Remove. For a walkway there is a Width slider. For a wall there are Height and Cap stones on top. A bed’s area is shown, such as “≈ 120 sq ft”.

Tips

  • Draw a planting bed behind a retaining wall for a raised planting area.
  • Measurements on photos are estimates marked ≈. On an aerial view they are accurate.
  • The Shadows, 3D depth and Perspective sliders are here too.

If something goes wrong

  • A tap fills a shape instead of starting a new one: switch tap-to-fill off.
  • “Close loop” is disabled: you need at least 3 points (2 for a line shape).
  • The shape looks wrong: lower the Perspective slider or drag the dots.
