Use the Designer on a phone

Camera, tilt, pinch zoom, long-press menu and other touch tips for phones and tablets.

The Designer works on phones and tablets. On narrow screens (under about 860 pixels wide) the layout changes: the tools sit in a row along the bottom, the options panel sits under the picture, and some labels shrink to icons.

Steps

  1. Open the Designer on your phone and start a design with Take a photo. The camera screen says “Hold your phone sideways at eye level. Fit the whole area in the frame.”
  2. If the camera cannot open, VisionScaper opens the file picker instead so you can choose a photo. Browsers only allow the camera on secure (https) pages and after you allow it.
  3. On an iPhone, allow motion and tilt access when asked. The tilt at the moment of the shot sets the eye-level line. If there is no sensor, you can drag the blue eye-level line yourself.
  4. Pinch with two fingers to zoom, and drag two fingers to move the picture. The Fit button and the plus and minus buttons also work.
  5. In the Erase & fill tool, press and hold on the photo for about half a second. A menu of choices for that spot appears, like a right-click. A short buzz confirms it on phones that support it.
  6. Tap the grip bar above the options panel to hide or show the panel and see more of your picture.
  7. To select several items with a finger, open the Move tool. When your photo has placed items or painted areas, its panel has a Select many section. Tick “On touch screens: one-finger drag selects (instead of panning)”. Then drag a box on an empty part of the photo.

Tips

  • Some labels are hidden on small screens. Ask AI and Get a quote show only their icons. The Saved status shrinks to a small mark. The sun button is hidden in the scene bar.
  • Space-to-pan and the keyboard shortcuts are for computers with a keyboard.
  • Photos are resized so the longest side is at most 1600 pixels.
  • Long-press as a menu is verified only in the Erase & fill tool. In other tools, press-and-hold is kept for dragging.
  • Whether the floating selection bar stays pinned on a phone is not verified in code.

If something goes wrong

  • Camera blocked: allow it in your browser’s site settings, or upload a photo instead.
  • Tilt not working: grant motion permission, reload, then retake the photo. Or drag the eye-level line.
  • Panel in the way: tap the grip bar to hide it.
  • One finger pans when you wanted to select: tick the one-finger select box above.
  • Pinch zooms the whole web page: pinch on the picture itself, not on the panel.
