Intake questions for homeowner requests
Add your own questions to the homeowner's request, per service, so you can price without a phone call.
When a homeowner sends you a request through Find a Local Contractor, VisionScaper asks them a set of questions so you have what you need to quote. It already asks a standard set. You can add your own.
What VisionScaper already asks
- Site questions every request gets, for example: how wide the way into the work area is, flat or sloped, wet spots, septic, well, propane or oil tank, irrigation, HOA approval, pets or children, where a truck can park, and where materials can be dropped.
- Service questions, for each of these services: Landscape design, Planting, Mulch & stone, Lawn installation, Patios & walkways, Retaining walls, Landscape lighting, Fencing, Drainage & grading, Tree work, Lawn care, and Irrigation. Planting, for example, asks what to plant, the goal, sun, whether deer visit, whether to remove existing plants, and how the plants will be watered.
- Budget, timing, priorities and contact details.
A completeness score shows how finished the brief is. A plain list names what is missing and why it matters.
Steps: add your own questions
- Open Settings, group Messages and connections, tab Intake questions.
- Pick a chip. Every request applies to all. A service name applies only when the homeowner picks that service.
- Tap + Add a question.
- Type the question, for example “Is there a dog in the yard during work hours?”
- Choose the type: Short answer, Long answer, Pick one, Pick any, Yes / No, Number, Date.
- For Pick one or Pick any, type the Choices, separated by commas.
- Optionally fill Why you ask. People answer more when they know why.
- Tap Save my questions. It tells you how many were saved.
A drop-down on each service lists “VisionScaper already asks N questions for this service”. Open it to avoid repeats.
Where you see the answers
On the quote that comes in as a Request, open Their answers. Your own questions are labelled “(your question)”. The request brief card also shows services, budget, timing, priorities and anything still missing.
Tips
- Add only questions you really need. Long forms lose people.
- Good ones: gate width, a dog, a hidden line, parking, HOA name.
If something goes wrong
- The tab is locked. Custom intake questions need a plan that includes them (a placeholder, not approved). A note on the tab says so.
- Your question does not show for a service. Check you added it under that service’s chip, or under Every request.
