The Appearance admin page: site look and emergency reset

What the Appearance page shows, how themes and layouts inherit, what locks do, and the four emergency buttons.

Settings → VisionScaper Appearance is a status and rescue page. The actual look and layout are edited inside the app.

Where you edit the look

Inside the Contractor Hub: Settings → 🎨 Appearance & layout → Whole site. Homeowners and everyone else can personalise their own view at My Account → Look & layout. The admin page has a button, Open the Appearance editor, that takes you to the Hub settings.

Everything is stored as checked settings, never as custom CSS, HTML or script, so a theme cannot break the app. Every value is whitelisted and limited to a safe range.

How the layers combine

From first to last, each layer can override the one before unless it is locked:
1. System defaults
2. Site theme (set by an administrator)
3. Business theme (each contractor)
4. My preferences (each person)

Layouts follow the same idea: a role default (set by the administrator) and then each person’s own layout. The theme can set mode (dark, light, system or high contrast), accent and other colors, type size, shapes and density.

Locks

An administrator can lock whole categories so lower layers cannot change them: colors, type, shape, density, motion, mode and layout. The administrator also chooses what contractors and homeowners may customise.

A contractor can switch on their brand color for their customer pages only if they choose to. It is checked so text stays readable.

What the page shows (“Right now”)

Row Meaning
Site look The published site theme name, or “VisionScaper default”
Known-good copy When the last good look was saved
Versions kept How many earlier versions exist
Locked for everyone Which categories are locked
Role default layouts Which roles have a default layout

Emergency buttons

If something looks wrong for everyone, use these. They only affect the site-wide layer. Each business and person keeps their own choices.

  1. Restore last known-good look: grey if no known-good copy exists.
  2. Back to the default look: unpublishes the site theme (the old one is kept in history as “Before the emergency reset”).
  3. Remove all locks
  4. Clear role default layouts

Each shows a green message such as “The site look is back to the VisionScaper default.”

Tips

  • Try a new site look in the editor and read it in light and dark mode before publishing.
  • Use the locks sparingly. A locked category hides the choice from users.

If something goes wrong

  • A button is greyed out: there is nothing to restore or unpublish.
  • People complain about colors: use Remove all locks, then ask them to use Look & layout.
