The Terms admin page: edit your Terms of Service
Where the Terms page comes from, how to edit the text, what happens when you save, and how acceptance is recorded.
Settings → VisionScaper Terms holds the text of your Terms of Service. A sensible default covering every VisionScaper feature ships with the plugin.
Warning: have your attorney review any changes. The default is a template, not legal advice.
How the Terms page works
- A page called Terms of Service is created automatically. It uses the shortcode
[dreamscaper_terms]. If it has not been created yet a built-in page serves the text. - The Terms are linked from every screen of VisionScaper.
- Visitors see a notice: “By continuing to use this website you agree to the Terms of Service.” Using the site counts as agreeing.
- People who create an account or apply as a contractor also tick a box. Each acceptance is recorded with the Terms version and the time.
- The default sections cover: Agreement; Who can use the website; Homeowners and members; Contractors; Contractor-only information about customers; Hiring and job applications; Door-to-door canvassing; Messages, alerts and texts; Your content; Acceptable use; Disclaimers; General.
Steps: edit the terms
- Open Settings → VisionScaper Terms.
- Edit the text in the big box. Format:
– A line starting with##is a heading.
– A line starting with-is a bullet.
– Other lines are paragraphs.<strong>and<em>are allowed.{brand}is replaced by your business name. - Click Save terms.
- You will see “Saved. Everyone will see the “Terms updated” notice the next time they use the app.”
Steps: go back to the default
- Tick Reset to the VisionScaper default text.
- Click Save terms.
What saving does
The Terms get a short version id that changes whenever the text changes. Because the id changes, everyone is asked to accept again. The “Last updated” date shown on the page is set when you save.
Tips
- Read the default sections on contractor-only customer records before you change them. They match the behaviour described in [customer-records-admin].
- Keep headings short so the page is easy to scan on a phone.
- Do not paste in formatting from a word processor. Use plain text with
##and-.
If something goes wrong
- The Terms page shows nothing: the page may have been deleted. Open the Terms admin screen once as an administrator and it will recreate the link and page.
- People say they were not asked again: they are asked the next time they use the app after the version changes.
