Get your Google sign-in Client ID and secret

Create a Google OAuth web client so customers can use "Sign in with Google" on your VisionScaper site.

“Sign in with Google” lets customers create a VisionScaper account with their Google account. You need an OAuth client from Google Cloud.

What VisionScaper uses

Item Value in VisionScaper
Fields Google Client ID (google_id) and Google Client secret (google_secret) under Settings → VisionScaper → Customer accounts → Sign in with Google
Scopes requested openid email profile
Authorized redirect URI Your home address with ?dreamscaper_oauth=google added, for example https://yoursite.com/?dreamscaper_oauth=google. The settings page prints the exact address for your site; copy it from there.
Account rule VisionScaper only signs a person in if Google says their email is verified.

The sign-in button appears only when both fields are filled.

Before you start

  • A Google account and access to the Google Cloud Console.
  • Your privacy policy page address.
  • Your site must use https. Google requires https for redirect addresses (localhost is the exception).

Steps

  1. Open Settings → VisionScaper in WordPress and scroll to Sign in with Google. Keep this tab open to copy the redirect address.
  2. In a new tab open Google Cloud Console → APIs & Services → Credentials. Create a project if asked (the same project can serve Maps and Contacts).
  3. Set up the consent screen. Google now calls this area the Google Auth Platform. On its overview page click Get started.
  4. App Information: enter an app name (use your business name; avoid names that look like Google’s) and a User Support Email, then add Contact Information emails.
  5. Audience: choose External.
  6. Complete the Branding details you want customers to see, including your privacy policy address.
  7. Finish the setup.
  8. Open the Clients page and click Create Client. Choose Web application.
  9. Under authorized redirect URIs, add the address copied from VisionScaper. It must match exactly: scheme, capitals and any slash.
  10. Click Create. Google shows the client secret once. Copy the Client ID and the Client secret now.
  11. Back in WordPress paste them into Google Client ID and Google Client secret.
  12. Click Save. Log out and test from a private browser window: choose Sign in with Google on your VisionScaper page.

Tips

  • Sign-in uses only basic scopes (openid email profile), which are not the sensitive kind. Google still asks production apps to go through its verification process; track it in Google’s Verification Center. In Google’s testing state only test users you list can sign in. Check Google’s current rules on publishing status.
  • The settings page tells you to publish the app. Do this once you are ready for real customers.
  • Use the same project as Google Contacts so you manage one place.

If something goes wrong

  • redirect_uri_mismatch: the address in Google differs from the one VisionScaper prints. Copy it again, character for character.
  • Button missing: one of the two fields is empty.
  • “Access blocked” or “unverified app”: the app is still in testing or awaiting verification. Add yourself as a test user or finish publishing.
  • “That sign-in link expired”: the sign-in took over 15 minutes; try again.
