Get an Expo access token (optional)

Create an Expo access token for push notifications, only needed if enhanced push security is on.

The VisionScaper phone app sends push notifications through Expo. The token is optional. You only need it if “enhanced push security” is turned on in your Expo project.

Before you start

  • An Expo account and the project the phone app belongs to.
  • Know whether enhanced push security is on. Expo says you enable it from the EAS Dashboard, and that when it is on, requests without a valid token are rejected with UNAUTHORIZED.

Steps

  1. Sign in at expo.dev.
  2. Open your Access tokens page: expo.dev/settings/access-tokens (Expo’s docs name this page “Access tokens”).
  3. Create a token and copy it. The exact button names and whether the token is shown only once were not confirmed in Expo’s docs; copy it immediately to be safe. (Unverified.)
  4. In WordPress go to Settings → VisionScaper, the Mobile app (push notifications) section.
  5. Paste it into Expo access token (optional).
  6. Click save.

Tips

  • If enhanced push security is off, leave the field blank.
  • A token can be revoked by deleting it on the Access tokens page.

If something goes wrong

  • Notifications stop with an authorization error: the token is missing, wrong or revoked. Create a new one and paste it.

Plugin check: field “Expo access token (optional)” (expo_access_token); sent as a Bearer header to Expo’s push service.
