fal.ai is the service behind VisionScaper’s AI Smart Select, garden-item and material identifying, and the AI text features (vision model, voice-note summaries, drafted quotes). You paste one key into VisionScaper.

• A fal.ai account (create one at fal.ai).
• You must be a WordPress administrator.
• Billing and pricing on fal.ai are set by fal.ai. Check their site; this guide does not quote prices.

1. Sign in to fal.ai and open the keys page: fal.ai/dashboard/keys.
2. If you work under a team, choose the team in the top-left corner of the dashboard first. The key belongs to the account that creates it.
3. Click Create Key and give it a name you will recognise, such as “VisionScaper site”.
4. Choose a permission preset. fal’s docs recommend starting with API, which can call any model.
5. Copy the key straight away. fal warns you will not be able to see it again.
6. In WordPress go to Settings → VisionScaper, then the AI section.
7. Paste the key into fal.ai API key.
8. Click the save button at the bottom of the page.

• Store the key in a password manager too.
• Make a separate key per site so you can delete one without breaking the others.

• AI tools say they are “busy” or “not switched on”: the field is empty, or the key was pasted with spaces. Paste it again.
• You lost the key: create a new one on the same page, paste it into VisionScaper, then delete the old one on fal.ai.
• Calls fail after working before: check your fal.ai billing or balance. (Not verified how fal.ai reports this.)

Plugin check: the field label “fal.ai API key” (option fal_key) is in the AI section of the VisionScaper settings; the plugin sends it as an Authorization: Key ... header.
