Texts need a sending number. VisionScaper can use a single Twilio number, or a Messaging Service that holds one or more numbers.

• A Twilio account with the Account SID and Auth Token saved (see “Get your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token”).
• Twilio asks you to register your business before US carriers deliver texts. Plan for that wait.

1. In the Twilio Console, open the phone number area and search for a number with SMS ability. Twilio’s phone-number page says you can search for and buy numbers and manage them; it does not spell out the menu labels, so follow what the Console shows. (Menu labels not verified.)
2. Pick a local number in or near your area, such as a 860 number for Connecticut, if you want customers to recognize it.
3. Buy it.
4. Write the number in international format, for example +18605550100. Start with a plus sign and the country code. Use no spaces or dashes.
5. In WordPress, go to Settings → VisionScaper. In Text messages (Twilio), paste it into Twilio phone number.
6. Save.

The help text under the field says the number is not needed if you use a Messaging Service. In that case the sender comes from the Messaging Service’s sender pool. See “Create a Twilio Messaging Service”.

On Settings → VisionScaper Marketing, the section Texts & missed calls (Twilio) lets you assign a Twilio number to each approved contractor. Each contractor number must also be added to your Messaging Service. The page also tells you which webhook addresses to set on that number (see “Point Twilio at VisionScaper”). Any per-number cost shown on that page is Twilio’s and may change. Check Twilio’s current pricing.

• Keep a list of which number belongs to which business.
• A US number used for business texts must be attached to an approved campaign (see the registration article).

• Test text never arrives. The number may not be registered yet, or the customer’s carrier filtered it.
• “Invalid From number.” The number is not in international format, or does not belong to this Twilio account.
• Replies do not show in VisionScaper. The number’s incoming-message webhook is not set.
