Make a VisionScaper access key for Zapier

Create an access key in the Contractor Hub and get ready to use it in Zapier.

VisionScaper has no published Zapier app, and the Hub says so. You connect with Zapier’s Webhooks by Zapier (or your own private Zapier app) using an access key from VisionScaper. This article makes the key.

Before you start

  • The Contractor Hub, and a plan that includes access keys. The plan’s hourly request limit is a placeholder, not approved.
  • A Zapier account. Zapier lists Webhooks by Zapier as a Premium app. Check Zapier for what your plan includes.

Steps

  1. Open the Contractor Hub and go to Settings → Connect other tools (address #/settings/api).
  2. Click the tab Access keys.
  3. Under Make a key, in What will use it?, type a name such as “Zapier”. The box holds up to 80 characters.
  4. Under What may it do? tick the boxes you need. The real choices are:
Box Lets the key
Look at customers and leads read customers and leads
Add and change customers create and update customers
Look at quotes read quotes
Look at invoices read invoices
Look at jobs read jobs
Add new leads create leads
Look at payments read payments
Set up alerts (needed by Zapier) create the alert subscriptions Zapier uses
  1. Tick Set up alerts (needed by Zapier) plus the “Look at” box for each thing Zapier should react to (see the next article).
  2. Click Make a key. You must tick at least one box, or you see “Choose at least one thing this key may do.”
  3. A box titled Copy your new key now appears. Click Copy key. The key starts with vsk_. It is shown only once.
  4. Paste it into a password manager, then click I have saved it.

Your keys list

Each key shows its name, the first characters, what it may do, when it was last used and how many times. Turn off disables a key at once. You can have up to 20 active keys.

Tips

  • Use one key per tool so you can turn one off without breaking others.
  • Choose only what the Zap needs.
  • If you lose the key, turn it off and make another.
  • The rest of Zapier is in “Use VisionScaper with Zapier”.

If something goes wrong

  • No Connect other tools screen. Your plan may not include it. The Hub shows a message if so.
  • “You have 20 active keys.” Turn one off.
  • Zapier gets 401. The key was copied wrongly or was turned off.
  • Zapier gets 403 “insufficient scope”. The key lacks the needed box.
