Messaging settings: Texts section

Every field in the Texts section of Settings → VisionScaper Messaging: Twilio or Telnyx, failover and Telnyx keys.

Find it in WordPress under Settings → VisionScaper Messaging. Only WordPress users who can manage site options (administrators) see it. This section picks which company sends customer texts and holds the Telnyx details. Twilio’s own details live on the main Settings → VisionScaper page, not here.

Before you start

  • To use Telnyx you need a Telnyx account, an API key, a sending number and (optionally) a messaging profile. See get-telnyx-details.
  • To keep Twilio, finish the Twilio setup on the main VisionScaper settings first. See get-twilio-details.
  • Follow each provider’s current instructions to get these values.

Fields

Field (exact label) What it does for VisionScaper What to enter and example Default / notes
Text service sms_provider Chooses which company sends every text on the site. Anything other than Telnyx is treated as Twilio. Pick Twilio or Telnyx from the list. Twilio
If it fails, try the other one failover When the first company reports an error, VisionScaper tries the other company once. It does not retry when the problem is the customer’s number (bad number, customer replied STOP), because another carrier would not help. The other company must be fully set up. Tick to turn on. Off
Telnyx key telnyx_key The Telnyx API key VisionScaper sends with each text. Telnyx counts as ready only when this and the sending number are both saved. Paste the key from Telnyx. Empty. Hidden password box
Telnyx webhook secret telnyx_whsec The shared secret used to check that a message arriving at the Telnyx webhook address is genuine. With no secret saved, every webhook is refused. Paste a secret you also give to the sender of the webhook. Empty. Hidden password box
Telnyx sending number telnyx_from The “from” number used for Telnyx texts when none is chosen for a specific message. Full number, for example +18605550123. Empty. Shows the saved number as grey hint text
Telnyx messaging profile telnyx_profile If filled in, sent to Telnyx with every text as the messaging profile ID. The profile ID from Telnyx. Empty (optional)
Webhook address Read-only. The address Telnyx should call with delivery reports and incoming replies. Select and copy it. Paste it into Telnyx where webhooks are set. Shows your site’s address ending in /msg/webhook/telnyx

Steps

  1. Open Settings → VisionScaper Messaging.
  2. Under Texts, choose a Text service.
  3. If you chose Telnyx, paste Telnyx key, Telnyx sending number and, if you use one, Telnyx messaging profile.
  4. Copy the Webhook address into your Telnyx account’s webhook setting. Use the provider’s current instructions.
  5. In Telnyx, set a webhook secret. Paste the same value into Telnyx webhook secret.
  6. Tick If it fails, try the other one only if both companies are set up.
  7. Press Save (see the save steps in the next article).

What happens to a text

  • VisionScaper adds “Reply STOP to opt out.” to a Telnyx text if the words are missing.
  • Telnyx texts are cut at 1,500 characters.
  • A customer who replied STOP is never texted.

Warning: VisionScaper checks webhooks with a generic signature (HMAC-SHA256 of the message body, sent in a header named x-telnyx-signature). The code says each provider’s own signature method is not built in. Check with your provider that it can send this header (not verified in code).

If something goes wrong

  • “Text messages aren’t set up yet.” means the chosen service is missing its key or number.
  • “That is a sample customer. Nothing was sent.” means the number is a demo customer.
  • Replies or delivery reports never show up: check the secret matches on both sides.

Steps to save and confirm

  1. Fill in only the boxes you need. Secret boxes always show empty after saving.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and press Save.
  3. A green notice that says “Saved.” appears at the top. That is the only confirmation the page gives.
  4. Boxes for keys show “saved – leave blank to keep” in grey once a value is stored.

Note: a blank key box means “keep what is saved”. You cannot erase a saved key by emptying the box (not verified in code that any other way exists). To replace a key, type the new one.
