Settings → Connected apps: overview and Google Contacts

Field-by-field guide to the Google Contacts card on the Connected apps tab, from keys to sync buttons.

Where to find it: Contractor Hub → Settings & Integrations → Settings → group Messages and connections → tab 🔌 Connected apps. Owner screen.

What it controls: how customers move between VisionScaper and other apps. The page says: “Bring customers in and out of VisionScaper. Your keys are stored encrypted and never shown again. CSV and vCard files work without any setup — use ⇅ Import / Export on the Customers page.”

The tab holds several cards: Google Contacts, QuickBooks Online, a QuickBooks money-sync card (only once QuickBooks is connected), Xero and Request form for your website. This article covers the page as a whole and Google Contacts. The others have their own articles: settings-connected-apps-quickbooks, settings-connected-apps-xero, settings-connected-apps-request-form.

Before you start

  • You need a Google account and a Google Cloud project. The card’s own “Set-up walkthrough” lists four steps. Follow Google’s current instructions on Google’s screens, and use the key guide get-google-sign-in-keys if you already created a project for sign-in.
  • The card says: “Not set up yet — 4 steps, about 10 minutes.” until you have saved a Client ID and secret.
  • The sync is about customer contact details (name, company, email, phone, address, town, state, ZIP are the fields compared in the review window).

The set-up walkthrough (fold-out on the card)

  1. Open Google Cloud’s People API page and click Enable (use the project you already have for sign-in, or a new one).
  2. Under APIs & Services, OAuth consent screen: User type External, add your email, then add the scope ending /auth/contacts. Set Publishing status to In production, or Google disconnects you every 7 days.
  3. Credentials → Create credentials → OAuth client ID → Web application. Under Authorized redirect URIs add the address in the Redirect address box on the card (it has a Copy button).
  4. Paste the Client ID and Client secret into VisionScaper, Save, then Connect. Google may warn the app is not verified: click Advanced → Continue (it is your own app).

Exported customers go into a “VisionScaper Customers” label in Google Contacts.

⚠️ N need review Opens a window listing customers changed in both places since the last update. Nothing is overwritten until you choose. Shown when something needs review.

In the review window, for each customer: a small table shows the field, VisionScaper’s value and Google Contacts’ value. Buttons: Keep VisionScaper's, Keep Google Contacts', Decide later. The choice is copied across on the next update.

The status line reads “✅ Connected … Mode: … Last updated: …” and shows the last error if there was one. If Google’s permission expires, a warning says to tap Reconnect.

Steps

  1. Open 🔌 Connected apps.
  2. Open the walkthrough on the Google Contacts card and complete it at Google.
  3. Paste Client ID and Client secret. Choose How data moves and, if wanted, the Google label.
  4. Click Save settings.
  5. Click Connect Google Contacts and approve in Google.
  6. Back in VisionScaper, click 🔄 Update now. Read the toast.
  7. Tick Update automatically every hour only after a successful first update, then save again.

Tips

  • Check the first sync result before switching on automatic hourly updates.
  • Leave “Pass on deletions” off until you trust the sync.

If something goes wrong

  • Connect button is greyed: save a Client ID and secret first.
  • Disconnected after a week: the Google consent screen is still in Testing. Set it to In production.
  • Customers in review: open the review window and pick a version.
  • Error text on the card: it is Google’s message. Fix at Google and press Update now.
