Importing customers: CSV, vCard and Google Contacts
Bring customers in from a file or from Google Contacts, check duplicates, and undo an import within 7 days.
You can bring customers into VisionScaper from a file (CSV or vCard) with no setup, or connect Google Contacts for a live link.
Import a file
Open Customers, tap Import / Export, then Import.
- Choose File to import. A CSV works from QuickBooks, Google, Jobber, LMN, Yardbook, Excel or another CRM, as long as it has a header row. A vCard (.vcf) can hold one or many cards from an iPhone, Android, Outlook or Gmail. The limit is 5 MB. Larger files: split them.
- Match columns. VisionScaper guesses. Under Column in your file and Goes into, change any. You can pick Use a saved mapping…, or name and Save this mapping.
- Choose what new customers are marked as, such as Potential customer or Past customer.
- Check 2. First 10 rows, as they’ll be imported.
- Tap Next: check for duplicates. Rows are matched to Already in your list, plus Repeated in the file and Can’t import.
- Choose what to do with each match, or for all: Update empty fields only, Overwrite with the file, Skip, or Create anyway.
- Import. It runs in batches with progress. The finish page says Import finished.
- New addresses become properties, mapped in the background so aerial views and measuring are ready shortly.
To undo, open Recent imports and tap Undo this import. Customers it added are removed unless they were changed or used since. Customers it updated keep their changes. Undo is open for 7 days.
Export
Export downloads All customers, the filtered list, or only the ones you ticked with Select. Choose CSV (and the columns), or vCard. The CSV opens correctly in Excel, and cells starting with = + – @ get an apostrophe so a spreadsheet never runs them as formulas.
Connect Google Contacts (live link)
Open Settings, tab Connected apps. The card Google Contacts has a Set-up walkthrough that says “4 steps, about 10 minutes”. Follow Google’s current instructions. In outline:
- Enable the People API in Google Cloud.
- Set up the OAuth consent screen (External) with the contacts scope, and set it to production, otherwise Google disconnects you every 7 days.
- Create an OAuth client ID of type Web application. Add the redirect address shown in the card.
- Paste the Client ID and Client secret into VisionScaper, Save settings, then Connect. Google may warn the app is not verified. It is your own app.
Then choose How data moves: Import only, Export only, or Both ways. Optionally fill Only import contacts with this Google label, which keeps family and friends out. Exported customers go into a label called “VisionScaper Customers”. Tick Update automatically every hour if you want it. Pass on deletions is off by default, which is safer. Update now syncs on demand. Items that clash show as “needs review”.
Tips
- Try a small test file first.
- Keep Pass on deletions off.
- Keys are stored encrypted and never shown again.
If something goes wrong
- “That file is larger than 5 MB.” Split it.
- Google disconnects every week. The consent screen is still in testing. Set it to production.
- Reconnect warning. Permission expired. Tap Reconnect.
