Facebook sign-in for customers
Create a Meta app, add the redirect address VisionScaper shows, and paste the App ID and App secret.
Customers can sign in with Facebook. Like Google sign-in, it creates a normal WordPress Subscriber account.
Before you start
- A Meta for Developers account.
- A privacy policy page.
- A page that explains how a customer can delete their data.
Steps
- Open Settings → VisionScaper and scroll to Sign in with Facebook.
- In Meta for Developers, choose My Apps → Create app. Use the use case “Authenticate and request data from users with Facebook Login”. Follow Meta’s current instructions.
- In Facebook Login → Settings, add the address shown on the VisionScaper screen to Valid OAuth Redirect URIs. It is your home address followed by
?dreamscaper_oauth=facebook. - Under App settings → Basic, add your privacy policy address and a data-deletion instructions address.
- Switch the app to Live.
- Copy the App ID and App secret.
- Paste them into Facebook App ID and Facebook App secret in VisionScaper.
- Press Save Changes.
What VisionScaper asks for
The scope is email,public_profile. If a Facebook account has no email, VisionScaper makes a placeholder email and the app asks the customer for a real one.
Tips
- For the data-deletion address, your privacy page can say customers can delete their account in VisionScaper by choosing Delete account from the account menu. That is a real button in the Designer.
- Test with a second Facebook account that is not an app admin once the app is Live.
- The sign-in button only appears when both ID and secret are saved.
If something goes wrong
- “That sign-in option isn’t set up yet.”: a box is empty.
- “We couldn’t read your account details. Please try again or use email.”: Facebook returned no profile. Check that the app is Live and permissions are granted.
- A staff member sees “Please sign in to staff accounts with a password.” This is deliberate.
- A redirect error from Facebook: the address in Meta does not match the one shown in VisionScaper.
