Google Contacts sync and calendar feeds
Sync customers with Google Contacts, and subscribe Google Calendar to a private VisionScaper calendar feed.
On this page
There are two separate things here. Google Contacts uses a Google key. The calendar uses a private link, not a key.
Google Contacts
Before you start
- A Google Cloud project. You can reuse the one for “Sign in with Google”.
- Owner access in the Contractor Hub.
Steps
- In the Contractor Hub, open Settings → Connected apps, card Google Contacts.
- Open the Set-up walkthrough.
- In Google Cloud, enable the People API.
- On the OAuth consent screen, choose External, add your email, and under Scopes add the contacts scope. Set publishing to In production, or Google disconnects you every 7 days.
- Create credentials: OAuth client ID → Web application. Add the redirect address shown (use Copy).
- Paste Client ID and Client secret in VisionScaper.
- Optionally fill Only import contacts with this Google label. This keeps family and friends out of your CRM.
- Choose How data moves and press Save settings, then Connect Google Contacts.
- Google may warn the app is not verified. Press Advanced, then Continue. It is your own app.
Exported customers go into a “VisionScaper Customers” label.
Calendar
VisionScaper does not log into your Google Calendar. Instead each person gets a private calendar feed (an ICS link) that Google, Apple or Outlook can subscribe to. Each appointment also has an add-to-calendar file.
- Open the calendar sync panel from your Schedule (the panel title comes from the app’s wording list; the exact menu path was not verified).
- Press Google Calendar to subscribe in Google. Or press Apple Calendar / Outlook. Or copy the private link under “Or copy this private link into any calendar app” and use Subscribe or From URL.
- Anyone with the link can see your appointment times. If you shared it by mistake, press Make a new private link. The old link stops working and you must re-subscribe.
Feeds update when your calendar app refreshes. Google can take a while.
Tips
- Keep deletions off at first.
- Records changed on both sides go to Needs review and nothing is overwritten.
- Hourly sync runs from WordPress cron.
If something goes wrong
- “Google says the connection expired or was removed. Tap Reconnect.”
- “Google didn’t accept the Client ID / secret.”
- “There’s no label called …” Fix the label or leave the box blank.
