Turning on Explore in 3D

Explore in 3D needs a Google Maps key with the Maps JavaScript API enabled. Here is how to turn it on and what customers see.

Explore in 3D lets a customer fly around their home in Google 3D, save favorite angles, and take a snapshot from that spot to start a design.

Before you start

  • A Google Maps key (see Google Maps keys).
  • The Maps JavaScript API must be enabled for that key in Google Cloud.
  • The key should be restricted to your website address.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → VisionScaper in WordPress admin.
  2. Paste your key in Google Maps API key (optional).
  3. Press Save Changes.
  4. Open your Designer page as a visitor.
  5. Start a new design. The photo choices now include Explore in 3D. (The option only appears when a Maps key is saved.)

What the customer does

  1. Type an address and press Go.
  2. Drag to orbit, scroll or pinch to zoom, right-drag to tilt.
  3. Press Save this angle and give it a name.
  4. Press View on a saved angle to fly back, or Snap from here to use that view as the design photo.
  5. Saved angles can be removed with the delete button.

Tips

  • The address search needs a located address. If Google autocomplete is on, picking a suggestion flies there at once.
  • Saved angles stay with the project.
  • If you do not want this feature, leave the key empty. The option disappears.

If something goes wrong

  • The option is missing: the Maps key box is empty or unsaved.
  • The message “3D view is unavailable right now. You can still take or upload a photo.” appears: the Maps JavaScript API may not be enabled, billing may be off, the key’s restriction may block your domain, or Google 3D may not cover that spot.
  • “Address not found.” Check the spelling or try a nearby address.
  • Clear the browser cache after changing the key.
