Map tiles and aerial imagery settings

Set the door-to-door map tiles and the aerial image service used outside Connecticut.

Two groups of settings on Settings → VisionScaper control maps.

Door-to-door map tiles

Contractors tap houses on a street map to log door-to-door visits. By default it uses OpenStreetMap, which is fine for light use.

Steps

  1. Sign up with a tile provider (for example MapTiler or Stadia Maps). Follow their current instructions.
  2. In WordPress admin, open Settings → VisionScaper, section Door-to-door map.
  3. Paste your tile address into Map tile address (optional). It must contain {z}, {x} and {y}. Example from the screen: https://api.maptiler.com/maps/hybrid/{z}/{x}/{y}.jpg?key=YOUR_KEY.
  4. Enter Map credit line, as your provider requires.
  5. Enter Deepest zoom level. Usually 19 to 20.
  6. Press Save Changes.

Bird’s-eye imagery outside Connecticut

Connecticut addresses always use the state’s 3-inch imagery. Everywhere else uses the ArcGIS image service in your settings.

Steps

  1. Find Bird’s-eye imagery outside Connecticut.
  2. Image service address: the default is the USGS NAIP service (public domain, nationwide, about 2 ft per pixel). To change it, paste another ArcGIS .../ImageServer/exportImage or .../MapServer/export address whose terms allow measuring and tracing.
  3. Imagery credit line: shown with the image.
  4. Imagery resolution (feet per pixel): NAIP is about 2. It tells contractors how precise traced edges are.
  5. Save.
  6. Leave the address empty to turn bird’s-eye imagery off outside Connecticut.

Tips

  • NAIP is good for property lines, the house and driveway. Small features are measured with a tape in the Landscape Plan wizard.
  • Downloaded tiles are cached on your server for a period, and new downloads are rate-limited per visitor. (The code comment says 60 days.)
  • Always check the imagery provider’s terms.

If something goes wrong

  • Map tiles stay on OpenStreetMap: the address is missing {z}, {x} or {y}.
  • Blank squares at high zoom: lower Deepest zoom level.
  • No imagery outside Connecticut: the image service box is empty.
