Pl@ntNet key for plant identification
Add a Pl@ntNet key so Plant ID can name plants and weeds from photos, with fal.ai as a backup.
Plant ID uses Pl@ntNet to name plants and weeds from a photo.
Before you start
- A Pl@ntNet account. Create one at the provider’s site and copy your API key, following their current instructions.
- The VisionScaper screen notes the free allowance as up to 500 identifications a day. Confirm the current limit with Pl@ntNet.
Steps
- Open Settings → VisionScaper in WordPress admin.
- In the AI section, find Pl@ntNet API key.
- Paste your key.
- Press Save Changes.
- Open the Designer, choose Plant ID, and try a clear photo of a leaf.
How identification works
- If a Pl@ntNet key is saved, VisionScaper asks Pl@ntNet first and uses its best match.
- If the match is weak (the code uses a confidence below 0.35) and a fal.ai key is saved, VisionScaper asks the fal.ai vision model as well.
- With no Pl@ntNet key but a fal.ai key, the vision model does the work.
- With neither key, identification is not available.
- Identify is free for the customer. It does not use their daily AI credits.
Tips
- Good photos matter: one leaf or flower, in focus, in daylight.
- Using both keys gives the best results.
- A Plant ID can earn community points if the community is on. Those point values are your own settings.
If something goes wrong
- Plant ID says it is not available: neither key is saved.
- Results are poor: retake the photo, or add the fal.ai key as backup.
- Identification stops partway through the day: you may have reached Pl@ntNet’s daily allowance.
- Wrong plant named: all identification is a suggestion. Customers should check.
