FAQ: plans, billing and payments

Eight quick answers about trials, failed payments, data safety, plan changes, bought credits, customer payments and prices.

Note: plan prices, tier contents, allowances and credit prices in the code are placeholders and not approved. Answers below describe how things work, not what they cost.

1. Is there a free trial for contractors?

Yes, one per business. The owner sets the number of days and which plan the trial uses. The business adds a card that is not charged until the trial ends, and verifies their email and phone (the phone check needs Twilio). A business that has had a trial is remembered, so deleting the account or changing email does not give a second one.

2. What happens if a payment fails?

Access steps down in stages, with full access first. A notice and email, then a stronger reminder, then costly extras pause (AI, new plans, buying credits or storage, large uploads, automatic follow-up texts), then read-only, then suspended. Appointment reminders, receipts and invoices to customers keep going. The owner sets the day each stage starts.

3. Is my data deleted if I stop paying?

No. A suspended account is not deleted. You can view and export everything, and paying restores everything instantly. After a long period unpaid the account is only flagged as eligible for deletion under the owner’s retention policy. Nothing is deleted automatically.

4. How do I change or cancel my plan?

From the app’s Plan & billing screen, which opens Stripe’s customer portal for payment methods, invoices, switching plans and cancelling at the end of the period. The site owner can also change a plan for you.

5. Do AI credits expire?

Free daily credits refill each day. Bought credits never expire and are used after the free ones. See [ai-credits-storage-packs-shop].

6. How do homeowners pay a contractor?

By card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank account (ACH) on Stripe’s page. The money goes to the contractor’s own Stripe account, which they connect from Contractor Hub → Settings → Get paid online. Bank payments take several business days to clear and can be returned.

7. Can the phone app take a card payment?

No. The phone records payments you received another way (cash, check, other). Customers pay on the website’s payment link.

8. What is autopay?

Autopay charges an invoice marked “autopay” on its due date, once, using a card or bank account the customer saved on Stripe’s page. It is off for the whole site until the owner ticks Automatic payments (autopay), and the customer can remove the saved method in My Projects. A decline retries on a plan the owner set, then stops.

Tips

  • Use [view-as-customer-tool] to see exactly what a late-paying account sees.
  • The owner can give one account a feature or free access with a reason that is kept in an audit log.

If something goes wrong

  • A feature is greyed out: check the plan and the failed-payment stage.
  • Payments or credits did not register: see [troubleshooting-rest-errors-and-stripe-webhooks].
