Search the library, including by voice
Type or speak plant names, colors, light and more into the library search box, with typo-tolerant matching.
The search box at the top of the library looks across common names, scientific names, colors, light needs and more. The readme describes the matching as typo-tolerant.
Steps: type a search
- Open Add → Plants & things.
- Click the box that says “Search [number] plants & features”.
- Type one or more words, for example
hydrangea, red, shadeornative. - Results replace the category view. The count line shows “[n] results”. The category chips are not highlighted while a search is active.
- Results are ordered by how well they match, unless you chose another sort in the filters.
- Clear the box to go back to the category you were browsing.
Steps: voice search
- Tap the microphone button next to the search box (its label is “Search by voice”). The button is hidden if your browser has no speech recognition. The code says it works in Chrome, Edge and Safari.
- Allow microphone access if asked. The box shows “Listening… say a plant, color or feature”.
- Speak, for example “show me purple flowers for shade”.
- VisionScaper drops filler words such as “show me”, “find”, “some”, “the” and “plants”, and searches with what is left. The search runs as you speak.
- Tap the microphone again to stop.
Other searches that work the same way
- Material search in the ground materials picker (“Search [n] materials”), also with a microphone.
- Design with AI and the “Say what it is” box in the item maker have their own voice buttons.
- My designs has a search box by name or tag (typing only).
Tips
- Short words work best. “Red” and “shade” are the examples the app itself suggests.
- If you want a list narrowed by several traits, use Filters instead. See Filter plants.
- Searching covers My Library items too.
If something goes wrong
- “Allow microphone access to search by voice.”: allow the microphone for the site in your browser settings.
- “Didn’t catch that — tap the mic and try again.”: speak closer or reduce background noise.
- “Voice search needs an internet connection.”: connect and try again.
- “Voice search isn’t available in this browser.”: type instead.
- “No matches.”: try fewer words.
