Set the scale with “Set it up for me”
Let VisionScaper find eye level and a door or car, then check the yellow 6-foot people so plants are the right size.
Scale is what makes a 6-foot shrub look 6 feet tall in your photo. Do it once per photo view before adding plants. Aerial (bird’s-eye) views are already to scale and skip this.
Before you start
- Have a photo view open in the Designer. The tool opens by itself the first time a view loads.
- You can also open it from Photo setup → Scale, from the scale chip under the picture (“Set the scale (how big things are)”), or with the S key.
- Signing in lets VisionScaper also find a door, garage door, person or car with AI.
Steps
- In the Scale tab, under Set the scale for me, tap ✨ Set it up for me.
- VisionScaper finds eye level, trying in this order: your phone’s tilt if the photo was taken in the app, then the straight lines in the photo, then an AI estimate if you are signed in. The message tells you which it used.
- If it spots a standard-size object, a dashed box appears with a question such as “Is the dashed box your front door? I’ll treat it as … tall.” Tap Yes, that’s right or No, skip it.
- Under Do these people look right? look at the three yellow people. They are all 6 ft tall: one near, one in the middle, one far. Next to your house and door they should look like real people.
- If they look wrong, tap They look too big or They look too small. Each tap makes a small adjustment and can be undone.
- When they look right, tap They look right — add plants →. The scale chip changes to “Scale set”.
- Optional: tap Test growth. It plants two sample shrubs, one near and one far, and plays the growth so you can check the scale. They are removed afterward.
The blue eye-level line
The blue line is eye level, the height of the camera. Drag it if it looks wrong. You usually do not need to touch it if you measure two things. If you move the line, things you measured keep their right size.
Tips
- If the shrubs look the same size in real life but different on screen, that is perspective: the near one looks bigger because it is closer.
- The scale chip shows “Scale: good”, “Scale: okay” or “Scale: check it” once measurements exist.
- You can place plants as far back as you like. A tip appears if a spot is at or above the blue line, because it will look tiny.
If something goes wrong
- “I couldn’t find clear lines, so eye level is a starting guess.”: drag the blue line until the horizon of the house looks right, then check the yellow people or measure something yourself.
- “That didn’t fit your photo, so I kept the earlier scale”: the object you confirmed did not match the picture. Measure something else.
- “Using typical camera settings.”: no door or car was found (or you are not signed in). Check the yellow people, or measure something yourself.
