Get your Pl@ntNet API key

Create a Pl@ntNet account, copy your private key, and paste it into VisionScaper.

Pl@ntNet identifies plants and weeds from photos. VisionScaper uses it first when it is set, and falls back to the fal.ai vision model if it is unsure or the key is missing.

Before you start

  • A Pl@ntNet account at my.plantnet.org.
  • WordPress administrator access.
  • Free quotas and limits are set by Pl@ntNet; read them on their site. (The quota was not confirmed on the docs page read for this guide.)

Steps

  1. Go to my.plantnet.org and create an account.
  2. Open your API key page: my.plantnet.org/settings/api-key. Generate your private key if one is not there yet.
  3. Copy the key.
  4. Leave key restrictions alone for VisionScaper. The key is used from your website’s server, not from a browser. (Pl@ntNet’s “Authorized IPs” is an optional restriction; if you set it, it must include your web host’s address. Not verified for your host.)
  5. In WordPress go to Settings → VisionScaper, AI section.
  6. Paste the key into Pl@ntNet API key.
  7. Click save.

Tips

  • Pl@ntNet’s responses include a count of remaining requests, so you can see your quota in their dashboard or API.
  • Without this key, Identify still works if the fal.ai key is set.

If something goes wrong

  • Wrong or no match: VisionScaper then tries the fal.ai vision model if that key is set.
  • Nothing identifies: check both keys are saved.
