Get your Postmark Server API token

Find the Postmark Server API token, set up a Broadcast stream and a verified sender, and fill VisionScaper's Marketing page.

Postmark is the email service VisionScaper recommends for marketing email. Its Broadcast stream keeps marketing apart from receipts and password mail, and it reports bounces and spam complaints.

Before you start

  • A Postmark account. Postmark’s message-streams page says new customers start a free trial and must request approval before sending broadcast email.
  • A domain or email address you can prove you own, and access to its DNS settings.

Steps

  1. Sign in to Postmark and open your Server (create one if needed).
  2. Open the server’s API Tokens tab. Copy the Server API token. Postmark says the Server token is for server-level requests and is sent in the X-Postmark-Server-Token header. Do not use the Account token.
  3. Create a Broadcast message stream. Postmark classifies streams as transactional (outbound) or broadcast (broadcast), and a server can have up to 10. For the creation steps, follow Postmark’s own guide “how to create and send through message streams” (the page could not be opened here, so the button names are not verified).
  4. In the stream’s settings, choose to manage unsubscribes yourself. VisionScaper adds its own unsubscribe link and a one-click unsubscribe header.
  5. Verify a sender. Postmark needs a confirmed Sender Signature or a verified domain for the address you send from, or the API returns an error. For a domain, add the DKIM and Return-Path DNS records Postmark shows. Also publish a DMARC record. VisionScaper’s help text says Gmail and Yahoo require it for bulk mail.
  6. In WordPress go to Settings → VisionScaper Marketing.
  7. Choose the radio button Postmark (recommended).
  8. Paste the token into Postmark Server API token. A saved token shows as dots. Tick clear to remove it.
  9. Enter the stream name in Broadcast stream ID. The usual value is broadcast.
  10. Enter Send from address, an address on the verified domain, for example hello@mail.yoursite.com.
  11. Set Sender name. {company_name} becomes each contractor’s business name, for example “{company_name} via VisionScaper”.
  12. Click Save & send me a test email. The page says “Saved — test email sent to” your address when it works, or shows the failure reason.

How the choice affects sending

If Postmark is selected but the token or a valid send-from address is missing, VisionScaper falls back to the site’s own mail. The status line at the top of the page shows “Email: Postmark” or “Email: Website mail” so you can check.

Tips

  • Use a sending subdomain (like mail.) so your main domain stays safe.
  • The default radio button, This website’s own mail, is fine for tests and small lists. It has no bounce handling.
  • Postmark’s test token POSTMARK_API_TEST sends test requests that are not delivered. Do not use it for real mail.
  • Postmark pricing and trial terms are not repeated here. Check Postmark’s site.

If something goes wrong

  • Test email fails with a sender error. The send-from address is not a confirmed signature or verified domain.
  • HTTP 401. The wrong token type was pasted.
  • Mail lands in spam. DKIM, Return-Path or DMARC is missing.
