Get your Vapi keys
Create a Vapi private API key and paste it into the AI Receptionist screen.
On this page
Vapi is an optional voice-agent service for the AI Receptionist, for more advanced setups. VisionScaper fields: Vapi API key, Vapi webhook secret, Vapi phone address (SIP).
Before you start
- A Vapi account. Rates are set by Vapi.
- WordPress administrator access.
- Webhook address from the top of Settings → VisionScaper AI Receptionist, ending in
vapi.
Steps
- Open the Vapi dashboard: dashboard.vapi.ai/org/api-keys, then API Keys.
- Use the Private API Keys section (VisionScaper runs on your server, so use a private key, never a public one).
- Click Add Key, type a Name, and select Create Private Token.
- Click Copy ID to copy the key. You can view it later with the eye icon.
- In WordPress go to Settings → VisionScaper AI Receptionist, Keys.
- Paste it into Vapi API key.
- Vapi webhook secret: enter the secret you set for Vapi’s server authentication. VisionScaper checks an HMAC-SHA256 signature in
x-vapi-signature. How Vapi supplies this was not verified (Vapi’s server-authentication page could not be read). - Vapi phone address (SIP): paste your Vapi number’s SIP address if used. Where Vapi shows it was not verified.
- Save. A blank box keeps the saved value.
Tips
- Use separate keys for testing and live.
- Check a key: Vapi says a request to its assistant list with the key returns your assistants, and a 401 means the key is invalid.
If something goes wrong
- “The voice service isn’t connected yet”: key box is empty.
- 401 errors: the key was copied wrong, or it is a public key.
