Telnyx number and messaging profile

Buy a text-capable Telnyx number, create a messaging profile, and attach one to the other.

Telnyx will not send a text from a number that has no messaging profile. This article sets up the number and the profile, and shows which VisionScaper fields they go in.

Before you start

  • A Telnyx account and an API key saved in VisionScaper (“Get your Telnyx API key”).

Steps

  1. In the Mission Control Portal go to Numbers > Search & Buy.
  2. Tick SMS under features and buy a number.
  3. Go to Messaging and click Add new profile. Name it and click Save.
  4. Go to My Numbers. For your number, open the Messaging Profile dropdown, choose your profile, and save.
  5. Note the number in international format, like +18605550100.
  6. Open the profile’s details and find its ID. Telnyx’s quick-start page does not say where the ID is shown, so look for an “ID” next to the profile name. (Not verified.)
  7. In WordPress open Settings → VisionScaper Messaging, section Texts.
  8. Enter the number in Telnyx sending number.
  9. Enter the ID in Telnyx messaging profile. Saved values for these two boxes show in the box after you save; the key and secret boxes do not.
  10. Click Save.

Add the webhook address to the profile

Telnyx looks for a webhook address in two places: on each message, then on the messaging profile. VisionScaper adds its address to a message only when it asks for a status callback. Setting the address on the profile too is safer. See “Telnyx webhook address and secret”.

Tips

  • The sending number must belong to your Telnyx account and be in E.164 format.
  • Keep one profile per brand if you have many businesses.
  • The field is optional in VisionScaper, but Telnyx requires the number to have a profile, so fill it.

If something goes wrong

  • Error 40300 when sending. The number has no messaging profile.
  • Error 40301. Registration is missing. See the Telnyx 10DLC article.
  • Wrong profile ID. Telnyx rejects the message. Copy it again.
