Route planner: plan one crew’s day

Pull jobs from your calendar, set lunch and fuel options, and get the best order for the day.

The Route planner finds the shortest order for a crew’s stops. You can add lunch, a fixed stop and fuel planning.

Where to find it

Hub left menu, group Schedule & Field, then Route planner.

Steps

  1. In 1. The day, pick the Day, the Crew (each crew’s route is planned on its own) and Leave at.
  2. Under Start from, type your yard or shop address. It is saved for next time. Tick Come back here at the end of the day or type another end address.
  3. In 2. Stops, tap πŸ“… Pull from my calendar to bring in that day’s jobs with how long each takes. You can also add addresses by hand. Each stop has an address and Minutes on site. Jobs with no address are flagged: type it in or remove it.
  4. Optional β›½ Vehicle & fuel: choose your vehicle, which fills miles per gallon and tank size, or choose Other β€” I’ll type its MPG and tank size. Tick Pulling a trailer (about 25% fewer miles per gallon) if it applies. Pick Fuel in the tank.
  5. Optional πŸ‘· Crew: enter Crew size and Total hourly wage of the whole crew ($). Paid driving time then counts toward cost.
  6. Optional πŸ” Lunch: time, length, or No lunch break. Tick Be close to restaurants at lunch.
  7. Optional πŸ“ A fixed stop: tick Be near … at … to meet another crew or pick up a part. Give the address and Be there by time.
  8. Tap πŸ—ΊοΈ Plan my route.

Results

You get the order, every leg with miles and minutes, and a note on how the order was chosen. The result can show:
– β›½ Get fuel before this drive with β›½ Best places to get fuel: three stations ranked by total cost (fuel plus extra driving plus paid crew time), each with a plain reason. Prices come from Google when a Google key is set, and can be hours old. Without prices, the station with the least extra driving wins.
– Buttons: 🧭 Open in Google Maps, πŸ–¨οΈ Print route sheet, πŸ“„ Open as a page (save as PDF / share), πŸ“… Update the calendar times.

Tips

  • Up to eight stops are checked in every possible order. Longer days use a fast improvement method that gives a good, not guaranteed best, order.
  • Planning the day does not change your calendar unless you tap Update the calendar times.

If something goes wrong

  • “Add at least one stop with an address.” Fill an address on at least one stop.
  • “Couldn’t find this address.” Check number, street and town.
  • No gas stations found. Fill up before you leave, as the screen says.
