From a design or plan to a quote (quantity takeoff)
Bring a VisionScaper design or measured plan into a quote and see how quantities are worked out from the shapes.
A takeoff turns shapes on a plan into quantities of material and hours of labor. The quantities come from the geometry. AI is never used for them. AI may only help with wording.
Two ways to start
Use one of my designs. On the quote screen, card 2, tap Use one of my designs. You pick a design, and its before and after pictures come into the quote together with the list of plants and features in it (the code stores these as the design’s assets).
Use the Landscape plan’s quantities. If the property has a 2D plan with shapes, card 3 shows Use the Landscape plan’s quantities. Tap it. If the estimate already has sections you are asked to confirm, because your changes to quantities and wording will be replaced.
Steps
- Make sure the customer’s property has a plan. Open the customer, tab Work, property card, Create a landscape plan. See the Landscape plans article.
- Open or create a quote for that customer and property.
- Tap Use the Landscape plan’s quantities.
- Read the toast. It says how many sections were built and lists any item where you need to add your own price.
- Open Job cost (internal). Check every quantity and price.
- Open Customer proposal. Check the scope wording.
Shapes marked “existing” are reference only. They are not priced unless you also mark them “Remove it”. If nothing can be priced you are told so.
What each shape becomes
| Shape | Sections the takeoff builds (examples) |
|---|---|
| Bed | New-bed prep when new, mulch or stone, edging along the perimeter |
| Stone area | Stone with fabric and delivery |
| Lawn | Sod (by pallet) or seed |
| Patio and walkway | Excavation, gravel base, bedding sand, pavers, edge restraint, joint sand, equipment days, delivery, labor |
| Wall | Wall blocks, caps, base and backfill |
| Edging | Steel, aluminum, plastic, stone, brick or a natural cut edge |
| Fence | Fence by the foot, plus gates |
| Grading | Rough and finish grading, topsoil |
| Boulders, features, lighting | By count |
| Plants | By plant type and count |
Mulch is the clearest example: the takeoff takes the bed area and depth, converts to cubic yards, adds a waste percentage for settling, rounds up in half-yard steps, and adds delivery loads and labor for prep and spreading. The scope text it writes states the area, depth and quantity.
Where the numbers come from
All unit costs, waste percentages and hours per unit come from your Price book. The starting values in the price book are placeholders, not approved. Replace them with your supplier prices and real production rates.
Tips
- Measure first (the Measure tool) so areas are exact.
- The proposal text is editable. Make it sound like you.
- Quantities start at your plan. If you change the plan, press the button again.
If something goes wrong
- No button. The property has no plan with shapes.
- “Nothing to price yet.” All shapes are marked existing. Untick Existing or tick Remove it.
- A line has no price. Items with no price in the price book are flagged. Enter your price.
