Filter plants by goal, light, color, size and more

Use goal ideas and filter groups with live counts, sort the list, set a hardiness zone, and find the pet-safe and invasive labels.

Filters narrow the current category (or your search results). Every filter shows how many plants it would give before you tap it, and nothing is hidden unless you turn a filter on.

Steps

  1. Open Add → Plants & things, then tap Filters and more tools.
  2. Use Sort: A to Z, Tallest first, Shortest first, Widest first, or Fastest growing.
  3. Open Start with a goal and tap one: Privacy screen, Beside the house, Front of the bed, Shady spot, Deer-resistant, Native garden, Year-round interest, Fall color, Spring flowers, Summer color, Fast growers, Colorful leaves, or Groundcover.
  4. Open any group and tap options:

  1. Tap Clear [n] filters to reset them.

Filters apply to plants only. Features (benches, lighting and so on) have group buttons instead.

Hardiness zone

Open Hardiness zone. Choose My zone or tap Find my hardiness zone. That helper offers a ZIP code lookup (U.S.) through an outside zone service, a “how cold do your winters get?” list, or “I already know it…”. Once a zone is set, cards say whether a plant is likely to thrive, borderline, tender or may be too warm. The Likely to thrive here chip filters to those. Zones never hide a plant by themselves, and your zone is remembered on this device.

Pet safe and invasive labels

  • A Pet safe chip is shown only if some plants in the library carry pet-safe data. In the bundled plant data checked for this manual, no plant is flagged, so you may not see the chip (not verified for pack or future data).
  • An invasive note (“Can be invasive in [region]”) appears on cards and fact sheets for plants flagged with regions such as the northeastern U.S., the Pacific Northwest, California, Australia or Europe. No bundled plant carries a flag in the data checked, so you may not see it yet (not verified for pack or future data).

Tips

  • Filter counts update as you combine groups, so grayed options mean “zero plants”.
  • Combine a goal with a group, such as Deer-resistant and Full sun.

If something goes wrong

  • Too few results: remove a filter or read “Clear [n] filters”.
  • ZIP lookup fails: use the winter list instead.
