Seasons, day and night, and sun direction
Switch between Peak look and the four seasons, turn on night lighting, flip the sun, and hold a button to compare with the original photo.
The scene bar under the picture controls how the whole design looks: which season, day or night, which way the sun lights painted ground, and whether you are looking at the original photo.
Seasons
Tap one of the season buttons:
- Peak look: each plant is shown in the season it looks its best. (Tooltip: “Peak look: each plant in the season it looks its best”.) New designs start on Peak look.
- Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter: every plant shows that season. Blooms appear only in a plant’s bloom months, fall color appears where the plant has it, and winter shows bare branches on deciduous plants.
Photo-based plants (from a Library pack or your own photos) keep their real growth data and are re-colored for the season. If a plant has real seasonal photos, those are used.
Day and night
- Tap the moon button (“Toggle night lighting”), or press N.
- The scene darkens. Features with a built-in light, such as lighting fixtures and a fire pit, glow. Place them from Add → Plants & things → Features → Lighting or Fire.
- Tap the button (now a sun) to go back to day.
Flip sunlight direction
The sun button (“Flip sunlight direction”) turns the lighting around. It affects the 3D relief on painted ground materials, so stone, brick joints, gravel and mulch are shaded from the other side. This is useful when the shadows in your photo fall the other way. See Paint ground materials.
Hold to see the original
Press and hold the eye button (“Hold to see the original photo”) to see the photo as it was before your changes. Let go to return.
Steps: compare a plan at two times
- Set Peak look and a year with See it grow.
- Save a design version (More menu → Design versions & notes).
- Switch to Winter, or turn on night, and save another version.
- Use Compare designs to slide between them.
Tips
- Season, years and night are saved with the design and used when you save a picture, print or share.
- Design with AI can do this for you: ideas such as “Show it in fall” and “Show it at dusk with lights” set the season and night for free; they do not change the photo itself.
- A photo-real look needs the AI “restyle” step, which uses credits. See Design with AI.
If something goes wrong
- Nothing seems to change when you pick Winter: a plant only changes if it has seasonal data. Check its fact sheet for fall color and bloom months.
- No glow at night: only features marked as lights glow.
- The sun button does nothing visible: it changes the relief shading of painted ground, so you need painted ground and the 3D depth slider above zero (not verified for every material).
