Undo, redo and seeing the original
Step back through up to 120 changes, jump to any step in History, redo, and peek at your original photo.
On this page
Every change you make can be reversed. The Designer keeps a list of your steps and lets you move back and forward through it.
Steps
- Press Ctrl+Z to undo the last change. On a Mac, Cmd+Z works too.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y to redo.
- Use the Undo and Redo buttons in the top bar for the same thing. A button is greyed out when there is nothing to undo or redo.
- Press the History button in the top bar (“see every change and go back to any step”). The list starts at “Original photo” and shows each change in order, with “You are here” on the current step and a time such as “just now”.
- Tap any step to jump back to it. Later steps stay in the list, greyed and marked “Undone — tap to redo”. Tap one to bring it back.
- Press and hold the eye button, “Hold to see the original photo”. Let go to return to your design.
- In the Paint panel (the Mulch, stone & lawn tab), the brush has three modes: Paint, Undo paint and Show original. Undo paint brushes paint away where you drag. Show original brings the photo back under your brush, and also undoes erasing and AI changes in just that spot.
Tips
- The undo list holds 120 steps. Older steps drop off the start of the list.
- A guided removal or a cover-up is added as a step you can undo. After using Remove it, the app says “Removed! Not perfect? Undo, adjust the selection and try again.”
- The outline editor (the white-dot screen used for beds and areas) keeps its own shorter list of about 60 steps while it is open.
- Esc cancels what you are drawing before it is added. It also clears a multi-selection.
- Making a new change after undoing clears the steps you undid. Use History before you make a new change if you want to go forward again.
- The undo list is cleared when the Designer loads a view again, so do not count on it after reopening a design or switching views (the code clears it on load; exact moments not verified). Saved cloud versions are a separate safety net; see Save and autosave.
If something goes wrong
- Undo does nothing: you may be at the start of the list, or past the 120 steps.
- Redo vanished: a new change clears the redo list.
- The peek button does not stay on: it only shows the original while you hold it. On a touch screen keep your finger on it.
- You closed the design by mistake: reopen it from My designs. See Save and autosave for versions.
