Measure Property from above

Trace lawns, roofs, beds and driveways on an aerial map, save the report to a customer, and start a quote.

Measure lets you trace areas on an aerial photo and get square footage and perimeter without visiting. Open Design Studio, then Measure (the full name is Measure property; subtitle “Lawns, roofs, beds & lots from above”).

The imagery is to-scale aerial photos. The screen says Connecticut 3-inch state imagery is used there, USGS elsewhere, or the provider set in Settings. They are served as map tiles by this site. Measured from above, on slopes the real ground is a little larger and trees can hide edges.

Steps

  1. Under Find the property, type the street address and pick it from the list. You can also start from a customer’s page with Measure property.
  2. The map opens on the property. Drag to move. Pinch, scroll or use the plus and minus to zoom. The map keeps loading so you never see blank space.
  3. Choose What is it?: Lawn / grass, Roof, Planting bed, Driveway, Patio / walkway, or Whole property.
  4. Tap each corner around the edge of the area.
  5. Tap the yellow Start dot to close the shape.
  6. Name the area.
  7. For a roof choose the Roof pitch (rise per 12 in.), for example “3/12 (low)”, “6/12 (common)”, or “12/12 (steep)”, or “Flat / not a roof”. From above a roof looks smaller than it is. The pitch gives the real roof surface and roofing squares.
  8. Tap Save & measure another area, or Save & finish.

The running list shows Measured areas and a Total. A shape that is too small is rejected. An unclosed shape asks if you want to finish without it. Discard this shape removes one.

Notes

You can add Notes for the report, for example “back lawn slopes; check the fence line on site”.

Tips

  • Zoom in before tracing curves for a closer fit.
  • Measure each area separately so you can price them separately.
  • The AI Quoter and the quote screen can use the measured areas for exact sizes.

If something goes wrong

  • “Couldn’t find that address on the map.” Check the address.
  • “Allow pop-ups for this site to print.” Allow them, or use Save to this device and print the picture.
  • Imagery looks old. It is what the provider has.
