Send an invoice

Send an invoice by email, text or both, add your own message, copy the link or print a PDF.

Saving a draft does not tell the customer. You send it on purpose.

Before you start

  • The customer needs an email address to get an email, or a mobile number to get a text.
  • Texting needs text messaging set up on your site and a plan that includes it. If it is not, the Text and Both choices are greyed out.

Steps

  1. Open the invoice and tap Save & send. (If it was already sent, the button says Save & send again.)
  2. In the Send the invoice window, choose ✉️ Email, 💬 Text or ✉️ + 💬 Both.
  3. Optional: write your own message in the box. It replaces the usual wording. Merge tags such as {customer_first_name} and {invoice_link} work in it.
  4. Tap Send.

A toast says “Invoice sent.” The status becomes Sent.

Other ways to share

Open the invoice. The extra buttons are in the status line’s ⋯ list, or in the button row on older screens:

  • Copy link copies the customer’s page address.
  • 🖨️ Print / PDF opens the page ready to print or save as a PDF.
  • 💰 Mark paid records a payment you got outside the website.
  • Void cancels the invoice. See “Record payments, void invoices and refunds”.

What the customer gets

The customer opens a web page that shows your design. If your Stripe account is ready, they see pay buttons. If not, they see a plain page. See “The customer payment page”.

Tips

  • If delivery fails, the error tells you what is missing and gives you the link to share by hand.
  • Reminders start from the date you send. See “The invoice reminder plan”.
  • Use Both for customers who rarely read email.

If something goes wrong

  • “The invoice couldn’t be delivered.” The customer has no email or mobile number, or text messaging is not set up. Add the detail on their record, or copy the link and send it yourself.
  • “Choose the customer.” You did not pick a customer. Pick one first.
  • Reminders or repeating invoices stopped. Automatic reminders and repeating invoices pause while your own subscription is suspended for non-payment. See “Contractor plans and billing”.
