Due dates and payment terms
Set the due date on one invoice, choose quick terms, and change your default due days for all invoices.
The due date controls two things: when an invoice counts as late, and when your reminders go out.
On one invoice
- Open the invoice.
- Set the Invoice date.
- Set Due with the date picker, or tap a quick chip under the dates:
– Due on receipt (zero days)
– Net 7
– Net 15
– Net 30 - Save the invoice.
The chips count days from the Invoice date. If you change the invoice date, tap the chip again.
Your default
New invoices set the due date from your default number of days.
- Go to Settings → 🧾 Invoice design.
- Under Default content, set Default due in (days). It accepts 0 to 120 days. The code’s starting value is 14 days.
- Tap Save invoice design.
The terms text
The Terms box on the invoice is wording only. It does not change the due date. Keep them in step: if you tap Net 30, say so in Terms. The built-in terms read “Payment is due by the due date shown. Thank you for your business.”
How the due date affects other things
- Reminders. Each reminder is “before”, “on” or “after” the due date. They go out at 10 am in the time zone of your website. See “The invoice reminder plan”.
- Late list. The Unpaid invoices screen puts an invoice in a group by days past the due date. See “Unpaid invoices and late reminders”.
- Autopay. An invoice marked for autopay is charged on its due date. See “Autopay”.
- Repeating invoices. The copy keeps the same gap between invoice date and due date. See “Recurring invoices”.
Tips
- Use short terms for small jobs and Net 15 or Net 30 for large ones.
- A deposit invoice made when a customer signs a quote gets a short due date set by VisionScaper (7 days in the older path; the schedule path is not verified in code).
- Changing the due date after you sent the invoice moves the reminder clock for reminders that have not been sent yet.
If something goes wrong
- A reminder did not go out. If the reminder time was already past when you sent the invoice, it is skipped. A reminder missed by more than two days is also skipped.
- The chip gave the wrong date. Check the invoice date first.
