Designer: Scale and eye-level controls

Every control on the Scale tab: Set it up for me, the 6-ft people check, measuring a known object, the tape, and the bird’s-eye map scale.

You find this in the Designer: tap Photo setup in the tool bar, then the Scale tab. The small chip under the picture (“Set the scale (how big things are)”, later “Scale: good”, “Scale: okay” or “Scale: check it”) opens it too. Anyone can use it; two helpers (door finding by AI) need you to sign in.

Scale decides how big a plant looks at a given distance, so plants and the See it grow slider match your yard. The panel for a photo and the panel for a bird’s-eye view are different; both are listed. Background: set the scale for me and measure things to set scale.

Before you start

  • Open a design with a photo. Bird’s-eye views are already to scale.
  • For Find it for me, Set it up for me door finding and similar, sign in (free). Without sign-in the tool still works from the lines in your photo.

Fields

Photo views: Set the scale for me

Field (exact label) What it does for VisionScaper What to enter and example Default / notes
Set it up for me Finds eye level from your phone tilt, the straight lines in the photo and (if signed in) an AI estimate, and may spot a door, garage door, car or person to treat as a known size. Tap it and wait for the message. It shows “Working…” while it runs. n/a
Yes, that’s right / No, skip it Appears when a dashed box was found. Yes uses that object as a known size. No ignores it. Look at the dashed box on the photo first, then tap one. n/a

Photo views: Do these people look right?

Field (exact label) What it does for VisionScaper What to enter and example Default / notes
They look too big / They look too small Adjusts the camera height by about 12 % (kept between 2 and 14 ft) so people and plants shrink (too big) or grow (too small). It is one undo step. Tap, then look at the yellow 6-ft people again. n/a
They look right — add plants → Marks the scale as set, hides the people, and opens the plant library. Tap when the people next to your house look real. n/a
Test growth Plants two sample shrubs, one near and one far, plays the growth, then removes them so you can check the scale. Tap and watch. n/a

Photo views: Measure something yourself (more exact)

Field (exact label) What it does for VisionScaper What to enter and example Default / notes
What is it? ui_scalePreset.id Chooses the known object and its typical height used as the starting height. Options: Front door (80 in); Garage door (7 ft) (84 in); Garage door (8 ft) (96 in); Privacy fence (6 ft) (72 in); Car (57 in); Person (66 in); Something else (72 in). Pick the thing you will measure in the photo. Front door
What did you measure? A name for the object so you remember what you measured. Options: Up to 40 characters. Type “mailbox”, “gate” or “ladder”. The Tap button stays off until you type. Empty
How tall is it? Feet Feet part of the real height. Options: 0 to 20, step 1. Type the real height. Doors and garage doors vary. Taken from the chosen object (door = 6)
How tall is it? Inches Inches part of the real height. The total is limited to 6 to 240 inches. Options: 0 to 11.5, step 0.5. Type 8. Door = 8
Tape measure picture A drag-the-end version of the two boxes above. Moving either changes the other. Options: About 12 to 144 inches. Drag the metal end, tap the blade, or use arrow keys. Follows the boxes
Tap its bottom and top Starts a two-tap measurement on the photo. Tap the very bottom where it meets the ground, then the very top. Disabled unless the height is at least 24 in (and a name is typed for Something else)
Find it for me Asks the AI to outline the object so you can confirm it. Tap, then confirm the dashed box. Only for Front door, both Garage doors, Car, Person; needs sign-in and the AI helper switched on
Yes, use it / No (dashed box question) Accepts or rejects the AI’s outline as the known object. Tap one. n/a
Remove (on each measured object) Deletes that measurement. Things listed “not used” were too small or did not fit the others. Tap. n/a
Eye level (blue line on the photo) cam.horizon The horizon height. Measured objects keep their size if you move it. Drag only if it looks wrong. Usually measuring two things (near and far) sets it. From phone tilt, lines or a guess

Bird’s-eye views

Field (exact label) What it does for VisionScaper What to enter and example Default / notes
Pixels per foot view.ppf The map scale. Change it only if plants look the wrong size against the picture. Options: 1 to 40, step 0.1. Drag a little and watch the plants. Set when the view was made
Show a person for scale opts.scale.person Draws a person-size marker on the map. Untick to hide. Checked

Steps

  1. Open Photo setup, then Scale.
  2. Tap Set it up for me. Read the message that appears.
  3. If a dashed box shows, tap Yes, that’s right or No, skip it.
  4. Look at the three yellow 6-ft people. Tap They look too big or They look too small until they look real next to your door.
  5. For more exact results open Measure something yourself: pick What is it?, type the real height in the feet and inches boxes, then tap Tap its bottom and top and tap the photo twice.
  6. Measure a second thing at a different distance if you can; this also sets eye level.
  7. Tap They look right — add plants →.
  8. Optionally tap Test growth to check the scale as sample shrubs grow.

Tips

  • Pick something upright and at least 2 ft tall. Small things such as stones make the scale worse, so VisionScaper ignores them.
  • A level phone held at eye height gives the best starting point.

If something goes wrong

  • Tap its bottom and top is greyed out. The object is under 24 in, or you chose Something else and left the name empty.
  • Find it for me is greyed out. Sign in, pick an object it can find, and ask your site owner to enable the AI helper.
  • A measurement says “not used”. It was too small in the picture or disagreed with the others. Remove it and measure something taller.
  • The chip says Scale: check it. None of your measurements could be used. Measure a door, fence, car or person.
