Messaging settings: Safety section
Every field in the Safety section: kill switch, approval requirements, message hiding, retention and monthly caps.
On this page
Find it in WordPress under Settings → VisionScaper Messaging. Only WordPress users who can manage site options (administrators) see it. This section holds the site-wide brakes on texting and emailing.
Fields
| Field (exact label) | What it does for VisionScaper | What to enter and example | Default / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Stop all texts and emails on this site (kill switch) kill |
When ticked, every message is blocked with the reason “Messaging is switched off on this site”. A setting in the site’s code file can also force this on. | Tick to stop everything. Untick to resume. | Off |
Only let a business text after its “Get ready to text” details are approved require_registration |
Texts from a business are blocked (“Texting isn’t approved yet”) until its status is approved. | Tick if carriers require registration. | Off |
Only let a business send marketing email after the sender passes the email check require_email_check |
Marketing email from a business is blocked until it has run the email check and passed. The check looks for SPF, DKIM and DMARC records on the sending domain. | Tick to require it. | Off |
Hide phone numbers and email addresses inside saved messages redact |
New messages are saved with emails shown as [email] and phone numbers as [phone]. It does not change old messages. | Tick to turn on. | Off |
Keep conversations for (days, 0 = forever) retention_days |
A daily job deletes saved messages and notes older than this. Delivery-event records are cleared after 30 days regardless. | Whole number, for example 90. | 90. 0 keeps forever |
Most texts per business per month (0 = no limit) hard_cap_sms |
Once a business has sent this many texts in the current month (UTC), more are blocked: “The monthly limit for texts has been reached”. | Whole number. | 0 (no cap) |
Most emails per business per month (0 = no limit) hard_cap_email |
Same for email. | Whole number. | 0 (no cap) |
Steps
- Decide whether you want approvals required. Turn on Only let a business text after… only after you are ready to approve businesses (see
messaging-text-approvals), or nobody can text. - Set retention to match what you tell customers.
- Enter caps only if you want a hard ceiling.
- Press Save and wait for “Saved.”
Tips
- The kill switch is the fastest way to stop a mistake.
- A business also has its own do-not-contact list. A customer who asked to stop is blocked whatever you set here.
If something goes wrong
- Businesses report “Texting isn’t approved yet”: untick the requirement or approve them.
- Messages stopped suddenly: check the kill switch and the caps first.
Steps to save and confirm
- Fill in only the boxes you need. Secret boxes always show empty after saving.
- Scroll to the bottom and press Save.
- A green notice that says “Saved.” appears at the top. That is the only confirmation the page gives.
- Boxes for keys show “saved – leave blank to keep” in grey once a value is stored.
Note: a blank key box means “keep what is saved”. You cannot erase a saved key by emptying the box (not verified in code that any other way exists). To replace a key, type the new one.
