Settings → Intake questions: every field explained

Field-by-field guide to adding your own questions to the homeowner request form, per service.

Where to find it: Contractor Hub → Settings & Integrations → Settings → group Messages and connections → tab ❓ Intake questions. Owner screen.

What it controls: your own questions that a homeowner answers before sending you a request. The screen says: “Your own questions in the homeowner’s request form, so you never have to call back to ask them.” Answers appear in the request brief in your Inbox. The page opens with the tip: “Add the questions you always end up asking on the phone. Homeowners answer them before they send the request — so you can price it the first time.”

Before you start

  • Custom intake questions are a plan feature. If your plan does not include them, the screen shows a lock note with the plan that does, and nothing can be edited. See settings-plan-usage-and-credits.
  • The service chips come from the server (your services and VisionScaper’s own service names). Exactly which services appear was not traced in code.

Fields

Field (exact label) What it does for VisionScaper What to enter and example Default / notes
Service chips One chip per service, plus Every request first. A small number on a chip shows how many of your questions it holds. Picking a chip chooses which list you are editing. Click a chip. The first service is selected.
Info box “VisionScaper already asks N questions for …” Read-only list of the questions VisionScaper already asks for that service, with their choices. Shown only if there are any. Read it so you do not duplicate. Fixed list.
Question text (shown as Q1, Q2, …) The question the homeowner sees. Questions with no text are dropped on save. Is there a dog in the yard during work hours? Up to 200 characters. Blank
Question type (select) The kind of answer: Short answer (text), Long answer, Pick one, Pick any, Yes / No, Number, Date. Pick one. New questions start as Pick one.
Choices, separated by commas The answer options. Shown only for Pick one and Pick any. Each choice is kept to 80 characters. Yes, No, Not sure New questions start with “Yes, No”.
Why you ask (optional — people answer more when they know why) A short reason shown with the question. So we can plan around the dog. Up to 200 characters. Blank
Remove question (trash button) Removes that question from the list on screen. Click, then save.
+ Add a question Adds an empty question to the selected chip. Click.
Save my questions Saves all chips’ questions together. A service can keep up to 25 questions. The toast says how many were saved. Click once. “Saved N question(s).”

For Every request, the note reads: “These are asked on every request you receive, whatever the service.” For a service it reads: “Your own questions, asked whenever a homeowner picks and sends the request to you.”

A question can be marked required in the saved data, but this screen has no checkbox for it (required stays off for questions made here).

Steps

  1. Open ❓ Intake questions.
  2. Click Every request or one service chip.
  3. Read what VisionScaper already asks, so you do not repeat it.
  4. Click + Add a question and type it.
  5. Choose the type. For choices, type them with commas.
  6. Add a “why” if the question might feel nosy.
  7. Repeat for other chips, then click Save my questions.
  8. Open your request form as a test customer to see the questions. See settings-connected-apps-request-form.

Tips

  • Ask only what changes your price or your plan for the day.
  • Use Yes / No or Pick one so answers are easy to compare.
  • Keep each list short. The server keeps at most 25 per service.

If something goes wrong

  • You see a lock note: your plan does not include custom intake questions.
  • A question vanished: it had no text.
  • Changes lost: switching chips keeps your edits on screen, but they are saved only when you click Save my questions.
  • Plan prompt on save: upgrade, or contact the website owner.
